Position Overview:
As the Planning Manager at JBPro, you’ll lead complex planning projects, guide and support planning staff, and help strengthen client and community relationships. You’ll bring structure, clarity, and forward-looking vision to a wide range of planning efforts, ensuring our work is collaborative, inclusive, and grounded in quality. This role is positioned between the Senior Planner(s)/Project Manager(s) and the Planning Director.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead long-range, policy, land use, and community planning projects from concept through completion.
- Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Guide research, spatial and demographic analysis, scenario development, and preparation of planning and policy recommendations.
- Use GIS mapping and analysis as a tool to support decisions and communicate planning concepts.
- Prepare and present planning materials to clients, advisory boards, elected officials, and community audiences.
- Design and coordinate community engagement activities that encourage broad and meaningful participation.
- Work collaboratively with community members, local leaders, agency partners, and private-sector stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned client.
- Support the development of scopes, proposals, and opportunities for new and ongoing work.
- Supervise and mentor Senior Planners, Planners, and technical/analyst staff.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and thoughtful delegation to support staff growth and balanced workloads.
- Contribute to workload planning, staff coordination, and departmental schedule management.
- Help refine and reinforce templates, workflows, SOPs, and QA/QC procedures.
- Assist in expanding the planning practice by identifying and securing a diverse mix of public and private projects.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning or a closely related field.
- AICP certification.
- 8–10 years of progressively responsible planning experience, including Senior Planner or Project Manager roles.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and maintain strong client relationships.
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Knowledge of land use law, planning policy, zoning standards, regulatory tools, community engagement methods, and planning data analysis.
- Proficiency with GIS as an analytical and communication tool.
- Experience mentoring and developing staff.
- Experience in Florida or a similar regulatory environment.
