About the role 

Reporting to the National Pipelines Specialist, we have an exciting opportunity for a Pipeline Patrol Technician to join our Terminal Operations team based at our Banksmeadow Terminal. 

 

 

In this critical field-based role, you will be responsible for monitoring pipeline easements and infrastructure between Sydney and Newcastle, helping to prevent unauthorised works on or near Ampol pipelines. You will act as an Ampol permit issuer and provide on-ground support for integrity digs and maintenance activities across the pipeline network. 

 

 

The role also involves liaising closely with landowners, local councils, and other utility providers to ensure the ongoing protection, compliance, and safety of Ampol assets. In addition, you will contribute to routine operations and preventative maintenance activities to support the safe and reliable performance of our pipeline infrastructure. 

 

 

Key responsibilities  

  • Develop and maintain extensive knowledge of pipeline routes, easements, and associated infrastructure. 

  • Become an authorised Ampol Senior Permit Issuer and oversee permit compliance requirements. 

  • Complete preventative maintenance activities across the pipeline network. 

  • Coordinate easement maintenance and vegetation management to ensure safe access and asset protection. 

  • Work collaboratively to deliver pipeline maintenance, integrity projects, and ongoing compliance activities. 

  • Participate in audits and regulatory activities 

  • Manage stakeholder meetings for NSW pipeline enquiries 

  • Be available for on call for 24/7 emergency response 

 

 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Qualifications in mechanical or electrical trade 

  • Proven experience in high pressure pipeline operations 

  • Experience in Petroleum industry and/or Major Hazard environment 

  • Excellent communications skills (verbal and written) 

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • High attention to detail 

  • Strong knowledge of pipeline codes and regulations, including AS2885, the Pipeline ACT and Regulations, and Critical Infrastructure requirements. 

  • Advanced capability in applying and managing safe systems of work, operating independently and providing guidance where required. 

  • Competent in performing maintenance and servicing of equipment and machinery with minimal supervision.
