Pipeline Pre‑Commissioning Field Engineer

TLDR

Support pipeline pre-commissioning through offshore supervision and coordination, ensuring safety and compliance, while engaging in field leadership and documentation validation.

1. Preparation & Planning

  • Support coordination between installation teams, onshore engineering, commissioning, HSE and vendors.
  • Participate in the development and review of pre‑commissioning procedures specific to pipelines.
  • Act as focal point for pipeline-related activities on board vessels, at yards or onshore.
  • Identify technical issues requiring escalation during documentation reviews or installation meetings.

2. Offshore Supervision of Pipeline Pre‑Commissioning

Supervise contractor‑performed pipeline pre‑commissioning operations including:

  • Vacuum pull operations
  • MEG filling
  • Flooding, cleaning, gauging
  • Pressure testing
  • Dewatering and drying sequences
  • Nitrogen packing
  • Pipeline surveys and integrity checks
  • Installation and recovery of flooding caps and pig traps

 

3. Verification, QA/QC & Documentation

  • Review and validate all offshore pipeline test records:
    • Pressure charts
    • Pigging logs
    • Calibration certificates
    • Data sheets
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of field documentation for handover dossiers.
  • Provide input to daily reports, deviations, risks and forward plans for pipeline activities.
  • Contribute to lessons learned and close‑out documentation

4. Safety & Field Leadership

  • Participate in toolbox talks, HIRAs, JSAs and SIMOPS coordination during pipeline operations.
  • Promote and enforce safety expectations during all pipeline activities.
  • Intervene immediately in case of unsafe acts, non‑conformances or procedural deviations.
  • Engineering degree (Mechanical, Subsea, Petroleum or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years of Oil & Gas experience, particularly offshore technical and HSE oversight roles.
  • At least 5 years dedicated to pipeline pre‑commissioning on offshore projects.
  • Strong understanding of deepwater pipeline systems, pre‑commissioning methodologies and subsea operations.
  • Knowledge of DNV/API/ISO pipeline standards and industry best practices.
  • Ability to interpret pipeline-related documentation (P&IDs, PFDs, isometries, hydraulic profiles, CFD outputs).
  • Strong communication and coordination skills in multicultural teams.
  • Ability to work offshore with required certifications (BOSIET, offshore medical, etc.).
  • Fluent English
