Role Requirements:

  • Epilepsy Functional Neurosurgeon – MD or DO
    • Functional Neurosurgery fellowship preferred
    • Epilepsy surgery experience required
  • Board Certified or Board Eligibility required
  • Must possess/ability to obtain a Florida Medical License
  • Call coverage is minimal
    • Ages treated – 18-years-old and up

Work Experience:

  • Patient census. Expect to see 25+ patients per day utilizing the efficiency of EPIC, electronic health record system.

Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg on Florida’s gulf coast is recruiting a Neurosurgeon with fellowship training in epilepsy surgery and functional neurosurgery. Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital has been a Level IV epilepsy program for 20-consecutive-years with a dedicated Neuroscience unit and NICU with neuroscience trained nurses and AANN epilepsy certified nurses. The Neurosurgeon would collaborate with an internationally recognized academically oriented Epileptologists with expertise in functional neuroanatomic clinical localization of epileptic seizures. The program has performed complex epilepsy surgeries and invasive monitoring including stereo-EEG (SEEG), intraoperative awake brain mapping of seizures and intraoperative mapping of tumors in eloquent regions. The Neurosurgeon would also do SEEG implanted of deep subcortical nuclei for drug resistant epilepsy and responsive neurostimulation. The program has a dedicated video-EEG monitoring unit with 24/7 staffing and ABRET certified EEG technologists, 3T MRI with high resolution head coil with the ILAE Harness MRI protocol, ictal subtraction SPECT co-registered to MRI, high resolution brain PET and MRI PET fusion and diffusion tensor imaging for tractography. The multi-disciplinary team also consists of Speech Language Pathologists, Epilepsy Neuropsychologists and Neuroradiologist.  In addition, the program has source localization and access to Magnetic Source Imaging. The program has a regional reputation for epilepsy excellence.

  • The ideal candidate must be fellowship trained in functional neurosurgery.
  • The candidate would have experience performing deep brain stimulation, and be interested in growing a functional program that includes a robust volume of both epilepsy and movement disorder cases.
  • The candidate would develop the deep brain stimulation for movement disorders and pain and expand referral base for brain tumors and intra-operative mapping.
  • The candidate would be experienced in functional imaging neuro-navigation programs and laser interstitial ablation (LiTT) for epilepsy and tumors.
  • American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) Certification.
  • ACGME Residency in Neurosurgery.
