The Permitting, Grid Connection & Energy Communities Specialist is responsible for managing the permitting and licensing of renewable energy projects, ensuring successful grid connection, and supporting the development and compliance of Energy Communities in line with regulatory and technical requirements. The role acts as a bridge between project developers, communities, regulators, and system operators to enable the deployment of decentralized, citizen-led energy projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage the permitting process for renewable energy and energy community projects, including preparing, submitting, and monitoring applications with local, regional, and national authorities
- Ensure compliance with environmental, planning, construction, and operational regulations, while identifying and mitigating risks that could cause delays
- Manage applications for grid access and interconnection agreements with TSOs and DSOs, ensuring adherence to grid codes, interconnection standards, and technical requirements
- Support technical teams in designing interconnection facilities and distribution networks, and liaise with system operators to secure timely approvals and resolve connection issues
- Facilitate the establishment, registration, and regulatory compliance of Energy Communities, acting as a liaison between citizens, cooperatives, municipalities, and regulators to enable collective self-consumption and shared renewable projects
- Advise communities on grid integration, metering, and allocation of shared energy, monitor regulatory frameworks and policies, and provide guidance to internal teams and stakeholders
- Promote citizen participation through stakeholder engagement, training, and outreach initiatives
- Build and maintain strong relationships with permitting authorities, regulators, municipalities, energy communities, and system operators, serving as the main point of contact for internal teams on permitting, grid, and Energy Community matters
- Maintain accurate records of permits, grid agreements, and Energy Community registrations, ensuring compliance with all legal, technical, and regulatory requirements
- Provide regular status reports to management on permitting, grid, and Energy Community projects.
- BSc or MSc in Engineering, Environmental Science, Energy Systems, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in permitting, grid connection, or community energy projects
- Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks for Energy Communities, collective self-consumption, and distributed energy systems
- Proven experience in interacting with authorities, municipalities, community cooperatives, and system operators
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders effectively
- Fluency in Italian and excellent command of English
