Role Overview

City Science is a fast‑growing, forward‑thinking organisation that has brought its People function in‑house within the last two years. We are continuing to build an effective, practical and scalable People offering that truly suits our organisation, and as part of that, we are expanding our team with a brand‑new role: People Team Advisor.

The People Team Advisor will provide hands‑on, comprehensive support across the full breadth of People activities. It’s an ideal role for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, can manage competing priorities and enjoys moving between operational tasks and improvement-focused projects.
We are looking for someone intuitive, solution‑focused and professional—someone who helps managers and employees grow, rather than acting as a crutch.

Key Responsibilities

People Administration & Operations

  • Deliver efficient, day‑to‑day People administration across the employee lifecycle.

  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure data integrity across systems, including BrightHR.

  • Support the Finance team by providing accurate and timely payroll‑related information.

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Manage full‑cycle recruitment through Recruitee, supporting City Science’s goal of eliminating external agencies.

  • Lead advertising, screening, interviewing and offer processes.

  • Support onboarding to ensure a smooth and positive new‑starter experience.

Employee Relations & Wellbeing

  • Provide balanced, supportive guidance to employees and managers on a range of People matters.

  • Assist with employee relations concerns in a fair, pragmatic and solution‑focused manner.

  • Contribute to wellbeing initiatives and help foster a positive, supportive culture.

Line Manager Support

  • Coach and empower line managers to build confidence and capability in handling day‑to‑day People matters.

  • Encourage proactive, developmental approaches that reduce dependency on the People team.

People Projects & Process Improvement

  • Support the development and refinement of People processes that suit a fast‑growing, scaling organisation.

  • Identify improvement opportunities that are efficient, practical and appropriate for where the organisation is today.

  • Help build a People function that is fit‑for‑purpose rather than overly policy‑driven or bureaucratic.

  • Work closely with and support the Head of People on development projects, people initiatives and process improvements as and when required, contributing to both strategic and operational progress.

Requirements

• Experience supporting a similar sized organisation, either in a small People team or in a standalone role.

• Ability to work autonomously, using initiative and sound judgement without step by step guidance.

• Comfortable managing shifting priorities and working at pace in a dynamic environment.

• Professional, intuitive and supportive, with strong people skills.

• A “doer” mindset—efficient, proactive and improvement focused.

• Broad HR generalist experience (not a single specialism background).

• Strong IT skills, with experience using HR/ATS systems (BrightHR and Recruitee advantageous).

• CIPD qualification not required; equivalent professional experience is more valuable.
