About the team and position
This isn't your average HR role. You'll be the crucial link between our teammates and the business, ensuring that every person at Carvana feels supported and treated with respect during complex life events.

As our People Operations Specialist focused on Leaves and Accommodations, you’re not just an administrator—you’re an internal customer service champion and an expert advisor. You balance team member support with accountability to drive efficient processes that meet key business needs.

This is a fully on-site position, Monday through Friday, at our corporate HQ in Tempe, Arizona.

What you’ll be doing

  • We’re looking for someone who treats every interaction as an opportunity to provide amazing service to our team members and leaders.
  • Own the Process: Take full, end-to-end accountability for the administration of all Leaves of Absence (LOA) and Accommodation (ADA) requests—from initial inquiry to return-to-work clearance.
  • Be the Expert & Advisor: Establish yourself as the go-to knowledge source for all Carvana teammates and leaders, providing clear, radically simple answers on parental, medical, military, and other leave policies.
  • Proactive Partnership: Don't wait for issues to escalate. You will proactively partner with leaders to find solutions, resolve concerns, and strategically align team member needs with business goals.
  • Facilitate the Conversation: Lead sensitive, confidential discussions (Interactive Process) with empathy and firmness to determine reasonable workplace accommodations.
  • Improve Everything (Low Ego/High Learning): We don't settle for "good enough." You will look for friction points, streamline processes, and remain continuously inquisitive.
  • Maintain Precision: Ensure impeccable data integrity and communication flow, confirming that all leaves are administered in accordance with federal and state regulations (FMLA, ADA, etc.).

What you should have/know
The Skills & Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in Human Resources, or in administering Leaves of Absence, Accommodations, or other related, high-volume, employee service-oriented work.
  • A solid grasp of (or willingness to learn) federal and state compliance laws related to LOA and accommodations (FMLA, ADA, PWFA, STD/LTD).
  • Experience with Workday is a big plus.

The Cultural Fit (This is non-negotiable):

  • Customer Service Obsession: You genuinely love helping people, and you define success by how clear and painless you make a challenging process for team members and leaders.
  • High Accountability & Ownership: If you own a task, it gets done right, on time, and completely. You don't pass the buck or make excuses.
  • A Willingness to Learn: You check your ego at the door. You thrive on feedback, see every mistake as a chance to improve a process, and are constantly looking to level up your knowledge.
  • You lead with smart thinking and common sense, not just policy.
  • You navigate highly confidential information with the highest degree of discretion and professionalism.
  • You translate complex policies into clear, actionable language for both senior leaders and team members.
