People & Operations Manager

TLDR

Drive the people operations and finance processes within a lean team, utilizing AI and automation to enhance efficiency and maintain a dynamic work culture.

We built data loading tool (dlt), the most popular open-source Python library for data loading, and we're now building dltHub, an AI-first data platform for Python developers. We're a team of 30, backed by Bessemer Venture Partners and Foundation Capital, with HQ in Berlin and in the US and hubs in the Netherlands and Canada.

We're looking for a People & Ops Manager to keep our business running smoothly. You'll own certain parts of people, finance & admin operations. You don't need deep experience in all of them, but you should have a strong track record in one and the drive to grow into the other.

We're a lean, well-functioning ops team and we intend to stay that way. We solve problems by building smarter processes, not by adding headcount. That means AI and automation aren't buzzwords here, they're how we work. We're looking for someone who's already using AI tools to get things done and is hungry to go further.

What you'll do

  • AI & Automation: continuously look for ways to automate repetitive work and improve how our ops team operates, using AI tools to keep our processes lean and scalable
  • People Operations: own core HR processes like onboarding, off-boarding, performance cycles, and documentation across a distributed team
  • Recruiting: Drive hiring end-to-end, from sourcing to offer, in close partnership with hiring managers
  • Culture & Events: connect our Berlin and remote team members through offsites, team events, and the everyday rituals that make us who we are
  • Finance Operations: Support budgeting, financial reporting, and keep a close eye on variances
  • Vendor & Contracts: manage vendor relationships, contracts, and renewals
  • People Initiatives: lead projects like our ESOP rollout, comp reviews, and policy updates from design to execution

Requirements

Must-haves

  • 3–5 years in people ops or finance & business operations at a startup or small company (under 50 people)
  • A track record of building and improving processes, not just running them
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and reliable, nothing falls through the cracks on your watch
  • Comfortable working independently across both strategic and day-to-day tasks
  • Actively using AI tools in your work today and eager to push further: automating repetitive tasks, improving workflows, and finding smarter ways to operate
  • Familiarity with HR/payroll or financial tools and systems
  • Strong Excel/Sheets skills, you're comfortable with complex formulas and building reports from scratch
  • Based in Berlin, able to work from our office regularly

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the other discipline (people ops or finance)
  • Familiarity with German employment or payroll frameworks
  • Exposure to US HR or payroll or financial compliance
  • Experience with equity programs (ESOP, options)
  • B2+ German
