At Buildout, we take the work, but not ourselves too seriously. And our people are at the center of everything we do. We’re looking for a People Operations Generalist to help run and improve the systems that support our fully remote team. People Ops shapes how employees experience the company, from their first day through every milestone along the way. This role is critical in making sure those moments run smoothly, feel delightful, and scale as we grow.
You’ll own core operational areas like onboarding, benefits, and HR systems, while also helping improve how we work behind the scenes. You’ll partner closely with the Director of People Operations and have the opportunity to take real ownership, make things better than you found them, and have a meaningful impact on the employee experience.
Own programs across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, and the moments that matter in between
Manage onboarding operations, including pre-boarding coordination, system setup, equipment ordering, I-9 compliance, background checks, scheduling, and day one onboarding sessions
Partner with managers and new hires to ensure a strong onboarding experience, tracking progress, supporting ramp, and identifying opportunities to improve onboarding effectiveness over time
Manage employee lifecycle changes (promotions, compensation updates, role changes) within our systems
Support employee leaves of absence, ensuring a smooth and compliant experience
Serve as a responsive resource for employees, answering questions and helping them navigate People Ops processes
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee data across Rippling (our HRIS) and internal records
Support benefits administration, serving as a resource for employee questions and working with vendors to resolve issues
Own payroll execution in partnership with Finance, including preparing inputs, reviewing changes, and ensuring accuracy across each cycle
Support payroll-related compliance and state tax processes, including reviewing notices, taking action where applicable, and partnering with internal teams or tax agencies to resolve issues
Build proficiency with our systems and workflows, identifying opportunities to automate how work gets done and leveraging new tools and AI where helpful
Help ensure our remote team has the tools, access, and support they need to do their best work day-to-day
Act as the liaison between employees and our IT vendor, helping troubleshoot issues and ensure timely resolution
Support employee access, provisioning, and offboarding across systems and tools
Coordinate equipment ordering and logistics for new hires and existing employees
Support the operations of our virtual workplace, including tools, systems, and processes (e.g., mail, access, vendor coordination)
Contribute to initiatives that strengthen connection and engagement across our remote team, including employee recognition, key milestones, and programs that reinforce our culture
You’ve built a solid foundation. You have 2+ years of experience in People Operations or a related role, and hands-on experience with HR processes like onboarding, payroll, and benefits (experience in a remote, SaaS company is a plus).
You’re systems savvy. You’re comfortable working in HR systems (Rippling and Google Workspace experience is a plus) and you’re confident learning new tools quickly.
You like making things better. You don’t wait to be told something could improve. You notice gaps and opportunities and take initiative to refine processes so they’re more efficient, scalable, and thoughtful.
You sweat the details. You take pride in accuracy, ensuring employee data, payroll, and compliance processes are handled with care
You exercise sound judgment. You handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
You’re comfortable moving quickly. Priorities evolve, new questions come up, and you keep moving work forward without waiting for perfect clarity.
You communicate effectively. You build trust through responsive, thoughtful communication and aren’t afraid to bring some delight and levity into the day-to-day
You take the work seriously, but not yourself too seriously. You bring humility, a sense of humor, and a collaborative spirit, helping create an environment where people enjoy working together.
We know there are great candidates who won’t check all of these boxes, and we also know you might bring important skills that we haven’t considered. If that’s you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
