About the program
Youth Enhanced Services (YES) supports young people experiencing mental health challenges to feel heard, valued, and empowered in their recovery journey. The program centres choice, connection, and hope—working alongside young people, families, and communities to build strengths and meaningful pathways forward.


Your role, your impact
As a Peer Worker, you will use your lived experience of mental health recovery to support young people in ways that feel real, respectful, and hopeful.

You will:

  • Engage and connect with young people in a respectful, recovery-oriented way
  • Share lived experience to support hope, empowerment, and practical coping strategies
  • Support families and carers, where appropriate, in line with program goals
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians and the broader YES team
  • Promote self-help skills and mental health literacy
  • Participate in outreach activities across the catchment (including Boroondara, Knox, Manningham, Monash (part), Whitehorse, and Yarra Ranges)
  • Maintain professional boundaries, documentation, and safety practices
  • Contribute to quality improvement and team learning


About you
You’re an authentic, reflective, and caring individual with lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery. You are confident in self‑reflection and able to share your recovery journey in a safe, purposeful, and strengths‑based way to support others.

You will also have:

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Comfort working collaboratively with clients, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • A strengths-based, hope-oriented approach
  • Willingness to seek support and supervision when needed
  • Current Australian driver’s licence


What will make you stand out

  • Certificate IV or higher in peer support, youth work, mental health, or a related field (highly regarded)
  • Experience navigating public or private mental health systems
  • Interest in outreach and community-based work
  • Passion for youth voice, inclusion, and service improvement
