We are now strengthening our People & Culture team and are looking for a
Payroll Controller to support and execute accurate, efficient, and compliant payroll operations across 13
countries. This is a key role within our global HR function, ensuring employees receive timely and correct compensation while maintaining high standards of data quality and compliance.
You will work closely with our HR and Finance teams, and external payroll providers in
13 countries, integrating into daily operations and contributing to the continuous improvement of payroll processes globally.

Responsibilities
- Own and control the monthly payroll process for employees across 13 countries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Validate all payroll inputs (hires, changes, variable pay, benefits, leaves, terminations) and coordinate payroll delivery with external providers.
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws, tax regulations, social security, pensions, and statutory benefits.
- Perform monthly payroll reconciliations and prepare payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and provisions in collaboration with Finance.
- Support payroll accounting, reporting, audits, and month-end / year-end close activities.
- Analyze payroll and salary costs, explain variances, and support budgeting and forecasting.
- Act as the first point of contact for employee payroll questions, providing clear and reliable guidance.
- Document and improve payroll processes, contributing to automation, standardization, and global payroll controls.
Your profile
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience as a Payroll Controller, Payroll Administrator, or in a similar payroll role, in one or more countries (Portugal, Sweden, Germany, UK…)
- Experience managing payroll in at least one of the countries we operate in, with openness to learning additional markets.
- Strong understanding of payroll fundamentals: taxation, statutory deductions, pension, leave administration, and compliance.
- Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to work with confidential information.
- Good communication skills with a service-oriented approach.
- Ability to work in a structured, independent, and reliable manner.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing multi-country payroll or working with international payroll vendors.
- Knowledge of HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Personio or similar).
- Familiarity with process documentation, audits, or workflow improvement.
