Payroll and Tax compliance Specialist

AI overview

Ensure accurate payroll and tax compliance across multiple states while building a culture of trust and accountability among Partners.

We don’t call our people “employees”; we call them Partners, because trust, accountability, and shared success are fundamental to how we work. We’re looking for a Payroll & Tax Specialist who takes that responsibility seriously, someone who understands that behind every paycheck is a Partner counting on accuracy, clarity, and care.

In this role, you’ll do far more than enter data. You’ll ensure Partners are paid accurately and on time, while protecting our tax compliance across multiple states. You’ll be the go-to expert and brand ambassador for payroll clarity, helping the organization navigate reciprocity rules, and the details that keep everything running smoothly.

How you will contribute mightily to the Phillips Mission.

This role requires a high level of personal pride. We aren't looking for someone to just "do the job"—we want someone who treats every pay cycle as a commitment to their teammates. You’ll spend your time navigating the complexities of multi-state filings, maintaining the integrity of our HRIS, and collaborating with our Finance team to keep our records clean. If you are passionate about meticulous attention to detail, are naturally curious, enjoy solving the "puzzle" of tax compliance and you value a culture that encourages you to grow while supporting you along the way, you’ll feel at home here.

What You’ll Need to become a Phillips Virtuoso:

  • Hands-on Experience: 3+ years of multi-state payroll processing. You’ve seen the "messy" side of local taxes and know how to fix it.
  • System Fluency: High proficiency in HRIS platforms (like ADP or Workday, we use Paylocity) and advanced Excel skills to organize and analyze data efficiently.
  • Reliability: A track record of meeting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Partner-Focused Service: The ability to communicate complex tax and deduction information clearly, professionally, and with care for the Partner experience.
  • Professional Credential: A CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) is strongly preferred, but we value proven experience and a willingness to keep learning just as much.
  • +-30% Travel per year to our Hanover, Maryland office will be required.

The expected pay range for a qualified person in this role is between $75,000.00 and $90,000.00 per year. If you have a different suggestion, please mention it in your application.
