About the Role

The Payroll and HR Specialist is responsible for all payroll processing within the company as well as all Human Resource functionality, including, but not limited to, benefits administration, performance management, and employee engagement. This dual-role position splits time equally between comprehensive payroll management and essential HR generalist responsibilities.

What You'll Do

50% Payroll Management

  • Prepare, process, and compile payroll data such as hours worked, salaries, commissions, taxes, garnishments, and other mandatory and voluntary deductions, posting to payroll records
  • Accurately update and record all pay changes, such as exemptions and insurance coverages
  • Process complete payroll cycles ensuring accurate and timely payments in compliance with IRS, DOL/FLSA, state, and local regulations
  • Prepare periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions
  • Compile and prepare monthly and quarterly reports (gross payroll, hours worked, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management
  • Perform various accounting journal entries, account reconciliation, and provide General Ledger support
  • Support tax filings (Form 941, unemployment reports, W-2 preparation)

50% HR Generalist Functions

  • Administer employee benefits programs and respond to benefits inquiries
  • Support performance management processes
  • Promote high employee engagement in the dealership
  • Correspond with employees, management, and corporate officers in response to questions or requests related to personnel
  • Handle HR-related employee questions and resolve issues promptly
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives across the organization
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and other departments on HR projects

Required:

  • Payroll experience required
  • Excellent communication, customer service, time management, and organizational skills
  • Dynamic and enthusiastic presence in a team environment with the ability to lead and initiate change
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment that requires frequent multi-tasking and shifting priorities while still managing deadlines
  • Must be technology-focused with knowledge of Outlook and payroll software, with a preference given to prior ADP experience
