In the role as Packaging Solution Engineer you will be part of a product development team with an overall responsibility for the packaging solutions, you will be expected to secure that our products reach our customers homes neat and clean in all our sales channels. You will work in close co-operation with different stakeholders throughout the value chain to find the optimal packaging to the best cost with a strong focus on our customers as well as on sustainability.   

As a Packaging Solution Engineer, you will: 

  • Lead development of customer friendly, total low cost and sustainable packaging solutions for the IKEA range.  
  • Apply packaging design for efficient manufacturing and logistics in an omni-channel landscape.  
  • Manage potential safety and quality risks during the development of the product and the packaging solution.  
  • Test and verify the packaging solution during the development phase according to IKEA packaging requirements  
  • Secure creation of packaging documentation according to IKEA standards and guidelines.  
  • Guide and support development partners from a range perspective on packaging solutions.  
  • Identify potential packaging improvement and give data-based input to action planning, supply chain setup, sales solutions and selling patterns.  
  • Actively capture and share learnings connected to packing solutions throughout IKEA and to partners. 

To be successful in this job we believe you have: 

  • A Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Previous experience in packaging design and development in the home furnishing industry is an advantage. 
  • Proficiency in CAD software-Solidworks etc for designing packaging structures and prototypes. 
  • Knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail. 
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Passion for sustainability and a commitment to reducing environmental impact through packaging innovation. 
  • Self-driven, structured, resourceful person who takes initiative and leads your work forward. 

You are solution oriented, able to prioritize, with a drive in making tough decisions. You like to be challenged and to keep learning new things. You will work with colleagues from all over the world. You therefore need to be fluent in English.

This position is temporary, covering a parental leave. The position is based in Älmhult, Sweden and requires a high level of presence in the office. Älmhult has commuting possibilities with hourly trains to Malmö, Lund and Växjö and an IKEA shuttle bus back and forth to Helsingborg three times a day.
