The Opportunity
Adept Group is seeking a motivated Packaging Engineer I to support our expanding CPG Food consulting practice. This role is ideal for candidates with 0–2 years of packaging experience who are passionate about food packaging, materials, manufacturing processes, and specification management.
The Packaging Engineer I will work under the guidance of senior engineers and project leaders to support packaging development, testing, documentation, artwork reviews, and specification management initiatives for major CPG food brands. This role provides outstanding exposure to packaging design, commercialization, supply chain considerations, and data governance within global food systems.
Some travel may be required to support client engagements or manufacturing trials.
Key Responsibilities:
Support packaging development and optimization projects across a range of CPG Food categories (snacks, beverages, frozen, refrigerated, pantry staples, etc.).
Assist in creating, maintaining, updating, and harmonizing packaging specifications within client systems (PLM, ERP, or digital specification platforms).
Conduct packaging evaluations including line trials, transit testing, shelf-life assessments, barrier performance checks, and packaging compatibility reviews under senior guidance.
Prepare and maintain technical documentation such as specs, BOMs, test reports, packaging instructions, and artwork routing.
Support specification cleanup and migration projects, including data verification, document standardization, and system-to-system transfers.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Marketing.
Assist in sustainability initiatives by analyzing material usage and identifying opportunities for source reduction, recyclability improvements, or packaging simplification.
Provide timely communication, quality deliverables, and strong attention to detail across all assigned tasks.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical discipline.
0–2 years of packaging experience, preferably in CPG food, beverage, manufacturing, or related industries (internships and co-ops welcome).
Foundational understanding of food packaging materials including flexibles, rigid plastics, paperboard, corrugate, closures, and laminations.
Exposure to or interest in packaging specification systems, manufacturing processes, artwork workflows, and data management.
SpecRight experience a plus, including document creation, template management, or supporting system migrations.
Strong communication, organization, and analytical problem‑solving skills.
Ability to follow structured processes, document work clearly, and manage multiple tasks.
A willingness to learn, take initiative, and contribute positively within a fast-paced client consulting environment.
Ability to travel occasionally to support client needs.

Compensation Range: $65,000 - $80,000
