Job Purpose

The Packaging Associate will play an active role in the day-to-day operations of the Shipping and Logistics department, including inventory management, daily picking, packaging, processing, and shipping of customer orders. This work must be completed safely, accurately, and in a timely manner. Shift hours are 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Key Responsibilities

Manage Shipment Inventory

  • Receive dispensed compounds from Finished Goods and accurately assign inventory locations
  • Organize shipment inventory to ease picking for customer order
  • Processes and documents return as required following established procedures
  • Performing regular stock checks and reporting any issues to the supervisor
  • Maintain proper organization of work and storage area
  • Investigate and correct discrepancies in reported quantities and locations of all inventories

Pick and Pack Shipments

  • Maintaining inventory levels of all shipping supplies, including boxes, packing tape, labels, pouches, etc
  • Print shipping documents (delivery notes, CoA, SDS etc…)
  • Pick, verify, seal and packs products based on daily customer orders
  • Meets shipping specifications of customer orders in a timely manner
  • Monitors product quality for all shipments, reporting problems to mitigate safety issues and improve customer satisfaction
  • Utilizes continuous improvement mindset and assists in identifying opportunities to improve processes
  • Maintains a clean, sanitary, and safe work area adhering to 5S principles.
  • Package and assemble orders to be shipped, ensuring proper packaging procedures are used and all required documentation is in place
  • Package and assemble orders of Dangerous Goods materials, cold pack and dry ice as needed
  • Pick items for customer orders using Cedar Bay software
  • Communicate any potential issues to the Team Lead and the Manager, Shipping & Logistics
  • Work closely with chemical compounds including ones that are potentially toxic or classified as Dangerous Goods
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while handling chemicals
  • Ensure a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, packing area, and workstations neat; maintaining clean shipping supply area; complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Process Shipments

  • Cross training to process orders and shipping products to customers using the ERP system IFS and shipping software
  • Tracking packages through different shipping stages such as pickup, transit, and delivery
  • Provide any necessary coordination with freight companies regarding shipments

Follow Safety Regulations

  • Adhere to health & safety policies and quality standards
  • Maintain and follow all regulations, including wearing proper protective gear while working in shipping environments

Perform Other Duties

  • Perform other duties and complete additional projects as assigned

Education Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or Logistics or Transportation or another related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and IATA Certification will be an asset
  • Completed Criminal Background Check

Competencies Required

  • Previous working experience as a picker, shipper, packager or logistics associate for 1-3 year(s)
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Extremely well organized, detail and deadline orientated
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
  • Good command of the English language
  • Strong problem solving and customer service skills
  • Previously worked with a balance with good knowledge of measuring units
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Self-starter: task oriented with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced working environment
  • Familiarity with handheld scanning equipment preferred
  • Comfortable with Enterprise Resource Planning programs and tools
  • Experience shipping items through different shipping carriers will be an asset (e.g. FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.)
  • Ability to multi-task and influence decision making processes and activities
  • Ability to work in the freezer at -20 °C for short periods

Physical & Working Conditions/Hybrid Work

  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 25-30 pounds
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time sitting in front of a computer
  • Must be available to work afternoon shift 

Pay range for this role is:

Minimum: CAD $43,000/ yearly

Maximum: CAD $45,000/ yearly

The salary range provided covers the minimum and maximum amounts projected for this role. The base salary will be influenced by factors like experience, skills, and location.
