YOUR OPPORTUNITY

The Open Wing Alliance (OWA), a program of The Humane League, is a global coalition of approximately 90 animal protection organizations across 70+ countries united in a common goal: to end the abuse of chickens worldwide. For the past several years, we have focused our efforts on eliminating battery cages by securing cage-free policies from major retailers, restaurants, and manufacturers. OWA groups share tactics and resources to secure as many wins for animals as possible, specializing in institutional campaigning that can be tailored to our members’ unique circumstances and challenges.

As the OWA Asia-Pacific Corporate Strategy Lead, you will provide guidance on corporate campaigning and corporate engagement for the OWA in the Asia-Pacific region, which includes Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. You’ll be responsible for building relationships with OWA member groups and providing advice and training in order to develop their knowledge and skills in corporate advocacy, which will translate to them securing impactful corporate commitments for animals. We want you because you are an experienced advocate and strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal skills. You are excited about collaborating with organizations across the Asia-Pacific region to maximize impact for animals, and you have a deep determination to remove the worst forms of animal suffering from companies’ supply chains. This position reports directly to the OWA Asia-Pacific Regional Manager.

This is a full-time, remote position. This position requires domestic and international travel, equivalent to 5 or more trips per year, and requires a valid, up-to-date passport. The successful candidate will be joining a high-performing, global team that works across many time zones. For this reason, we ask that you work outside of standard 9am-5pm hours (for example, 12pm-8pm) at least two days per week. This position can be based in Vietnam, India, Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, or Singapore. The successful candidate must be authorized to work in one of these countries and reside in that country while undertaking this role.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide guidance on corporate engagement and/or campaigns to OWA groups in the Asia-Pacific region, and collaborate with groups to troubleshoot issues.

  • Support OWA groups to adapt campaign tactics to different local and regional contexts in the Asia-Pacific region. Co-lead regional campaigns with OWA groups.

  • Lead in-person and virtual training for OWA groups on corporate engagement and/or campaigning.

  • Build strong relationships and trust with OWA groups, alongside a reputation as a sharp strategic thinker and strategist.

  • Develop resources and training materials in order to empower OWA groups.

  • Attend high-value corporate meetings and campaign actions.

In addition to the above essential job duties, other duties may be assigned as business needs arise. These may include non-essential, marginal job duties.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Experience: Previous experience with successful corporate engagement and/or pressure campaigns, including strategy development and execution.

  • Strategic Thinking and Problem Solving: Leads problem-solving efforts and the development of campaign strategies. Ability to identify opportunities, innovate new tactics, evaluate options and potential outcomes, and anticipate obstacles to secure animal welfare commitments from companies. Escalates issues to senior leaders when necessary, seeking additional perspectives and expertise to guide complex, often high-stakes decisions. 

  • Verbal and Written Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats with stakeholders across a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Adapts communication style to suit different audiences’ needs. Ability to lead successful training sessions, acting as a subject matter expert and explaining ideas clearly and concisely. 

  • Collaboration and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability and desire to collaborate with audiences with a variety of different levels of knowledge and experience. Actively contributes to the achievement of team goals, coordinating collaborative efforts and working with colleagues to collectively overcome challenges. Ability to build positive relationships and resolve conflicts. 

  • Global Perspective: Approaches work with a global perspective, taking into consideration the diverse experiences of stakeholders across many different cultures, languages, and political systems. Embraces differences and collaborates with OWA groups to adapt strategies to regional and local contexts, prioritizing global impact.

The annual compensation range for this role is:

  • $85,243 - $127,865 for candidates based in Australia
  • Rp190,666,400 - Rp285,999,600 for candidates based in Indonesia
  • ₹414,876 - ₹507,129 for candidates based in India
  • ¥4,795,192 - ¥5,860,773 for candidates based in Japan
  • RM56,853 - RM69,487 for candidates based in Malaysia

  • $54,270 - $66,329 for candidates based in Singapore
  • ₩53,762,728 - ₩65,710,001 for candidates based in South Korea

This position will be eligible for an attractive hiring bonus equivalent to 10% of gross annual salary. 50% of the bonus is payable in the first month's salary and 50% is payable after successful completion of the probationary period. The hiring bonus will comply with local laws and, therefore, may be subject to applicable local taxes.
