NorthStar Earth & Space operates a 24/7 SDA/STM data processing infrastructure and a global team of experts in support of customers through any time zones. 

 

In support of the growth of its global expert services, NorthStar is looking for an Orbital Dynamics Specialist in the Canadian region to provide analysis about space object activity using various Space Situational Awareness (SSA) tracking data and tools.  

 

 

Who you'll work with   

 
You will be joining a navigation ops team dedicated to performing real time SSA function, using the NorthStar orbital dynamics product suite.  

 

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, software developers and product owners based in Montreal who is dedicated to developing innovative solutions for monitoring the space environment using multiple sources for observations and geospatial data.  

   

What you will do   

 

  • Monitor SDA operation activity and customer task request during ops hours. 
  • Monitor NorthStar Orbit Determination pipelines to proactively contribute to customer needs.  
  • Provide subject matter expertise in terms of examination and assessment of metric and photometric SDA live data feed, monitoring orbital changes, estimating orbital characteristics and investigation behavioral evolutions.  
  • Adjust models and configure NorthStar Orbit Determination tools to refine solutions.  
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and script development to provide specific information to the client. This includes initial orbit determination, state vector estimation, anomaly detection, and maneuver determination.  
  • Reporting results, progress, and compliance internally and to client.  
  • Leveraging operational exposure to support the NorthStar’s core SDA tools product development plannig by providing inputs and operational requirement refinements.  
  • Develop, maintain and update processes and procedures for real-time operations

  

What you bring to the table   

  

  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Science, or fields related to astrodynamics is required, or any other relevant combination of education and experience may be considered. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with Orbit Determination and/or spacecraft navigation and/or space mission operations is desired. 
  • Working experience in a customer-facing environment 
  • Strong experience working with space object navigation data is desired. 
  • Experience/knowledge of orbital mechanics is required. 
  • Experience/knowledge of estimation theory is desired. 
  • Experience in code development in Python or equivalent scripting language is preferred. 
  • Familiarity with Orekit or equivalent libraries is desired. 
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, to think independently and handle multitask environments. 
  • Effective communicator with ability to adjust tone and clarify complex material.
