Job title: Optoelectronics ODM engineering manager
Summary/Objective
The engineering manager owns design, development, and product release of optical transceivers using Outside Design and Manufacturing partners. This person will develop product specifications and define an engineering team to execute the New Product Development project. They will partner with the ODM supplier’s engineering project manager, approving the assignment of people, delivering the product specification, validation, and qualification requirements - and managing the NPD process.
Candidates will be steeped in product development, optical transceiver product technology, and manufacturing.
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities.
- Lead the end-to-end development process for optoelectronic assemblies such as optical communication transceivers, from concept and prototyping to production and market release.
- Collaborate with Samtec marketing, engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, and quality to define product specifications, plans, and budgets.
- With ODM partner, ensure team performance.
- Oversee the design, development, and testing of optoelectronic components, ensuring performance, reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards.
- Set up decision processes and roles to ensure timely execution
- With support from Samtec Engineering, resolve technical challenges to keep development on track.
- Contract and specification negotiation.
- Communicate up, across and down.

Required Experience
- 5+ years of experience in new product development, with at least a couple of cycles from concept to revenue and at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong leader driving with a sense of urgency
- Proven expertise in optoelectronics, including knowledge of optical systems, optical transceivers, semiconductor devices, or related assemblies.
- Strong project management skills, with experience using tools like MS Project, Jira, or similar.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements for optoelectronic products.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
