About the Role: 

As an Operations Engineer, you will leverage your extensive expertise in Linux Systems to help maintain, care, and feed the various clusters of servers, bare metal and VMs, across the entire Ooma Production Infrastructure. You will also provide and maintain tools to proactively ensure the stability and efficiency of our systems as well as work closely with members of the team to manage the physical upkeep of the various data centers across the globe. Your role will also include interactions with additional teams to service their production infrastructure needs such collaborative debugging with SMEs, providing production standards in security, redundancy and scalability future planning. The role is ideal for professionals with deep Linux background and expertise and hands-on experience, especially in on-premises datacenter settings.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, deploy, operate, and maintain Linux-based systems in on‑premises data center environments.
  • Perform advanced Linux OS troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and optimize Linux distributions and system services.
  • Manage and support virtualization platforms, with a strong emphasis on the KVM hypervisor.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, and performance using modern monitoring and observability tools.
  • Respond to incidents, participate in on-call rotations, and lead post-incident reviews.
  • Provision, maintain, and troubleshoot physical server hardware.
  • Implement and maintain configuration management, automation, and operational best practices.
  • Collaborate with application, platform, development teams to support production services.
  • Document systems, procedures, and operational runbooks.

Experience We’re Looking For: 

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Systems Administrator, Operations Engineer, or similar role
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Linux
  • Strong skills in Linux OS troubleshooting, performance analysis, and system optimization
  • Experience with KVM-based virtualization, knowledge of the OpenNebula platform is a plus
  • Experience with operating onsite at datacenters including managing and maintain storage, power and cabling
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability
  • Configuration management and automation tools
  • Strong understanding of system reliability, availability, and capacity planning
  • Proficiency with shell scripting (Bash); Python or similar languages a plus
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • Experience with containers and container runtimes is a plus
  • Kubernetes (K8s) administration or operational experience is a plus
  • Networking fundamentals and troubleshooting is plus #OP-1
