Duration: Full Time, Contract-to-Hire
Shift: 1st Shift (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
Pay Rate: $20 – $35/hr. (Based on Experience)

Position Overview:
Qualdoc is seeking On-Site Machinists to set up and operate manually controlled machinery for precision repairs on equipment, vessels, and mechanical structures. This role involves both on-site machining at customer locations (locally, nationally, and internationally) and work at our Portsmouth, VA facilities. Key Responsibilities:
Transport, set up, and operate machining tools and equipment at job sites.
Perform machining using portable milling machines, clamshell lathes, line boring systems, grinders, and hydraulic tensioning systems.
Measure machined features using precision measuring tools.
Safely set up and remove fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories on various machines.
Assemble and disassemble mechanical equipment using hand and power tools.
Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and job instructions.
Operate lifting aids to support machining operations.
Communicate with customers and government representatives to coordinate jobsite work.
Track parts and job progress using JobBOSS and Travelers.
Maintain a safe, clean workspace, ensuring compliance with procedures and regulations.
Complete inspection reports and document as-found conditions for completed jobs.
Work overtime as needed, including evenings and weekends.
Perform grinding, machining, and heavy equipment setup on ships and in shipyards.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Experience operating Lathes, Grinders, Boring Mills, Planers, and Portable Tools.
Skilled in Turning, Drilling, Tapping, Boring, Honing, and Polishing.
Large part machining experience (e.g., ship propeller shafts, steering gear) is a plus.
On-site machining experience is highly beneficial.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
3 to 5 years of related machining experience preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
Ability to interpret and explain technical instructions to others.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions.
Proficiency in reading blueprints and precision measuring tools.
Ability to perform basic math calculations (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions).
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to move products using an overhead crane.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs when required.
Frequent standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, climbing ladders, and using stairs.
Vision requirements: Close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Some time spent working on a computer for administrative tasks.
Work Environment:
Moderate to high noise levels in shop and field environments.
Subject to pre-employment drug testing and background check.
