Nurse - RN

Registered Nurses provide age appropriate and culturally sensitive professional nursing care for a variety of acute and chronic conditions and injuries in an inclusive, collaborative, and integrated Center for Health and Wellness.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $65,165 - $81,466 per year.

Core Responsibilities:

• Receives, triages, and assigns appropriate level of care to all incoming clinical phone calls to Health Services based on clinical assessment including the provision of self-care instructions based on presenting symptoms in accordance with Health Services, state, and federal protocols when appropriate.
• Uses physical assessment skills for in-person appointments to independently evaluate a student complaint and make recommendations for self-care, further evaluation, or for urgent care outside of Health Services.
• Recognizes and immediately intervenes in emergent situations such as acute traumatic injury, cardiac arrest, and anaphylaxis in accordance with Health Services protocols.
• Administers medications and vaccines with full understanding of appropriate dose, preparation, route of administration, and potential adverse effects.
• Conducts and interprets point of care testing including, but not limited to, urine analysis, urine pregnancy test, rapid strep test, Covid antigen test, hemoglobin, and blood glucose.
• Collects specimens (and instructs student in self-collection of specimens), utilizing appropriate technique for phlebotomy, ensuring patient safety in the event of syncopal episode.
• Demonstrates proficiency in technical procedures including but not limited to EKG, nebulizer treatments, suture removal, audiometry, and wound care.
• Completes timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) according to best practices and Health Services and communicates professionally and effectively with students, colleagues, and collaborating providers.

Requirements

• Commitment to multicultural approaches to clinical care.

• Successful collaborator with cross-discipline colleagues to support positive outcomes.
• Knowledge of the social, psychological, and physical developmental stages of college students.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• 2 years of experience in primary care, urgent care, or similar.
• Current, or eligible to obtain, Vermont State RN license.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Potential exposure to communicable diseases. May need to help patient onto and off exam table. Functions in a fast-paced clinical environment. Able to provide care occasionally into the evening or on weekends, to support student outreach activities, for continuity of care and in management of an acute crisis. Cross-campus and cross-town travel may be required.
