JOB SUMMARY:
The position of X-Ray Technician falls under the department of non-destructive testing and will primarily utilize x-ray machines to inspect, analyze and interpret the findings on repaired aircraft and industrial engine components.
Under the guidance of the Company NDT Level III, exercise the privileges of company certifications to prepare, process, and inspect parts using radiographic nondestructive testing methods. This role ensures product quality and compliance with applicable industry, manufacturer, and governmental bodies standards by detecting defects, cracks, and inconsistencies with repaired turbine engine components.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
2. Set up, operate, and standardize x-ray equipment to process parts, interpret and evaluate for acceptance or rejection of repair, and document the results.
3. Maintain currency and be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the technique/method utilized.
4. Conduct system performance checks in accordance with the applicable process standard.
5. Develop work instructions from approved general procedures. Such work instructions shall require final approval by a Level III certified in the method.
6. Choose the applicable technique and generate the images as instructed.
7. Once images are prepared, inspect and evaluate any findings to rejection criteria provided.
8. Visually inspect affected area to verify a surface condition is not causing a false positive.
9. Document all findings on the forms required by the company to ensure findings are clearly recorded for service history and repair requirements.
10. Define type of defect when possible. Describe location, size, and orientation. Plot indications on drawings when provided.
Required Qualifications:
1. Three to five years of experience as a Level II in NDT methods for which qualification and /or certification shall be required.
2. The ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions accurately, including reading and interpretation of shop drawings.
3. Previous experience in the use of overhead cranes.
4. Shown a previous ability to successfully pass skill level tests in other trades or disciplines.
General knowledge of turbine engine component repairs, including welding, heat treat, machining, and coatings. Possess a current IRRSP card and/or the ability to pass the IRRSP certification class and radiation safety class.
Other Qualifications:
1. High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
2. Some college level (or similar) courses in areas such as, but not limited to, metallurgy, welding engineering and manufacturing processes helpful.
3. Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
4. Previous experience and/or the ability to perform mathematical operations, including working with decimals, fractions, and basic shop math.
5. Previous experience or familiarity with measuring gages such as calipers and micrometers.
Work Environment:
1. This position has pre-employment testing requirements that includes a vision test required to meet minimum standards for qualification, including color perception and near vision.
2. Follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection when required.
3. Work in varying positions from time to time. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move less heavy parts (<50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
4. Occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
5. Due to the complexity of the processing of parts, the NDT Level II position must obtain supervisory prior permission for all shift early reports.
