Narrative Strategist

Lead the development of core messaging and narrative for AI safety, ensuring alignment across all communications channels as public interest in the field surges.
The Center for AI Safety (CAIS) is a leading research and advocacy organization focused on mitigating societal-scale risks from AI. We address AI’s toughest challenges through technical research, field-building initiatives, and policy engagement, along with our sister organization in DC, Center for AI Safety Action Fund.
Public awareness remains the single biggest bottleneck in AI safety. Fortunately, the public's interest in AI safety is growing extremely quickly. Videos, articles, and social posts about AI safety are now reaching millions, and public curiosity is compounding by the week. CAIS is building a public engagement team to harness this surge in public interest and maximize the amount of attention that AI safety receives.
We're hiring a Narrative Strategist to own our messaging house and narrative. You define narrative frames, talking points, and guardrails so every channel is focused on the same core ideas. You monitor the discourse and work closely with social, video, media comms to ensure all of CAIS messaging is aligned. You report to the Head of Public Engagement.
What You’ll Do
Develop and maintain CAIS' core messaging and narrative
Draft “what we say when X happens” playbooks
Monitor discourse across major platforms
Shape narrative themes and editorial priorities
Partner with Social and Video to ensure consistency
What We’re Looking For
7+ years in messaging, public affairs, or strategic narrative
Deep understanding of online discourse dynamics
Exceptional writing and framing skills
Strong instincts for persuasion and positioning
