The Climate Action Campaign (CAC) is seeking a Mobilization Director to drive ambitious field work focused on building more and more focused people power to tackle the climate crisis through Federal policy change.

 

We’re looking for an ambitious organizer hungry to build volunteer power at scale, a savvy data-driven analyst eager to lead experiments, and a seasoned manager and leader who brings the best out of a small staff team. Our goal is to ramp up the scale and sophistication of our base of climate activists and volunteers by deepening their commitment for sustained activism around federal climate policies. From running phonebanks to actions outside Congressional offices and training volunteers for town hall events, CAC’s grassroots team is focused on empowering our Champs and holding accountable leaders pushing anti-climate policies. 

 

This position reports to the Senior Director of Field & Campaign Strategy and works closely with CAC’s leadership team and across the campaign as well as with an array of coalition partners.

Core Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage, train and mentor a small staff.

  • Lead CAC’s grassroots work through tried and true grassroots tactics while pushing the envelope with creative tactics that generate significant activity. 

  • Launch a robust, scalable volunteer program with a focus on deepening  commitment to climate, moving folks up our ladder of engagement and cultivating leadership. 

  • Design and lead a series of field experiments recruiting folks to in-person and virtual climate-themed events with a rigorous eye to tracking and measuring results.

  • Engage and coordinate with grassroots leaders across our coalition.

  • Understand the dynamics that motivate our targets and our partners to successfully engage activists in the work.

  • Track progress to goals, hold the team accountable, coach, motivate and train staff and partners to success. 

  • Troubleshoot internal and external problems with expert diplomacy. 

  • Collaborate internally with CAC leadership and team members to maximize the impact of CAC campaigns. 

  • Travel as needed for grassroots events, trainings and actions.  

  • Be a nimble team player who can identify gaps and step in to fill tactical and strategic opportunities as needed.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate will bring:

 

  • At least 8 years experience leading large-scale field programs on advocacy and/or political campaigns.

  • An ambitious entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to drive field teams to exceed what they think is possible.

  • Expertise designing and executing sophisticated volunteer programs and trainings.

  • A talent for managing people, with excellent interpersonal skills, and a track record of building highly-effective field teams and developing strong staff. Previous staff management experience is required.

  • Analytical and data-driven with excellent attention to detail and a deep curiosity for the story behind the numbers.

  • Skills as a strategic thinker and clear communicator who can drive home for others how tactics connect back to the larger campaign strategy. 

  • Agility at managing competing priorities, anticipating and preparing for challenges, and able to quickly shift plans as the campaign evolves.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range for this position is $100-$110k and is commensurate based on experience. Full-Time Benefits Include:

Work Environment

This position is based in Washington, DC. CAC staff work in a hybrid set-up with 2-3 days per week of in-office work.

 

Physical Requirements

Predominantly operates in an office environment. Must be able to remain stationary a majority of the time. Must be able to use standard office equipment including computers and keyboards.
