Mobile Research Unit Operator (Driver)

Overview

Lightship is a clinical trials service provider leading in increasing access and choice in taking part in research to improve equity for all. We design and conduct studies in partnership with biopharmaceutical companies to accelerate bringing new therapies to market. Our approach is to engage people where they are and support them across their journey in a clinical trial, from first contact to study completion. We work to make it easy, convenient, and safe for people to take part by offering visits in clinic, at home, using our mobile research units, and digital health tools. By transforming the way, we conduct clinical research, we can decrease study timelines and reduce dropouts to accelerate development of better therapies.

The Mobile Research Unit Operator is an energetic, independent, and compassionate individual. This is a specialized role in clinical research operating and maintaining Lightship’s mobile research unit in support of our ongoing clinical trials.

Additionally, this 4-month contract will require moderate travel, across various locations in Los Angeles County and Orange County, California. 

The Mobile Research Unit Operator is responsible for:

• Driving the mobile research unit to predetermined locations in a safe and professional manner.
• Ensuring mobile research units are properly parked, locked, and alarm system set at the end of each shift.
• Assisting with mobile research unit set up and break down at each location.
• Maintaining a professional attire (e.g., medical scrubs) and demeanor with patients, visitors, and co-workers.
• Completing daily vehicle pre-trip and post trip inspections, maintaining vehicle records, and maintaining clinic cleanliness.
• Filling up the freshwater tanks on the mobile research unit as needed.
• Ensuring that fuel levels are maintained to support transportation and generator needs.
• Ensuring preventative and regular maintenance (oil change, fluid levels) and annual safety inspections are completed as required for the mobile research unit.
• Escalating information on any issues or problems that may surface during regular vehicle checkups.
• Performing other duties as assigned, including but not limited to attending events, engaging event attendees to discuss the study, registering walk-in event attendees, collecting data authorization forms from potential participants, and assisting in administering pre-screening surveys to potential participants.

The Mobile Research Unit Operator has:

• Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Physically able to step up and down steps, lift 30 lbs, understand how to use an ADA lift, and transport wheelchair patients on paved and unpaved surfaces.
  • Must understand instructions in English. (both written and spoken).
  • Ability to comfortable maneuver a large vehicle in Los Angeles traffic.
• Education and experience
  • 1 year experience driving a large RV type vehicle (e.g., 37 foot in length) or a medical vehicle. (e.g., ambulance, medical van/transportation vehicle)
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • No more than 1 moving violation or 1 “at fault” accident within the past 3 years

The hourly range for this role is between $25.00 - $40.00, depending on education, skills, and experience.  To determine our compensation, we use a market-based approach that is geographically neutral.
