Mid Project Engineer

TLDR

Contribute to the design and optimization of mechanical systems in a high-tech laboratory setting, impacting AI development through hands-on experiments and data analysis.

Engineering at TRACTIAN The Engineering team at TRACTIAN is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge infrastructure, technologies, and products to harness the power of IoT data. Our team of talented Engineers collaborates to build robust systems, innovative solutions, and scalable platforms that drive Tractian's success. We are instrumental in shaping the company's decision-making process, optimizing operational efficiency, and delivering exceptional experiences to our consumers.   What you'll do   As a Mid Project Engineer, you will be responsible for designing custom test benches, structuring experiments, and analyzing mechanical failures in our Industrial Testing Laboratory. Your primary focus will be on the mechanical design of laboratory equipment, including the appropriate sizing and specification of industrial machines and components (such as motors, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, and bearings), the delimitation of test plans, and the technical analysis of results. This hands-on role requires active participation in the daily execution and operation of physical tests, which is essential for you to gain real-world context and build a profound understanding of our mechanical systems and the phenomena we capture. We currently operate a highly advanced and robust laboratory structure that generates immense value for the development of our AI models. You will play a key role in supporting the continuous improvement of these facilities. By ensuring that our mechanical setups are continuously optimized, you'll contribute to making our test environments even more safe, reliable, and innovative, directly impacting the physics-based datasets used for machine learning and predictive analytics. You’ll also collaborate with our testing and data science teams to support accurate and reliable physical data collection through well-designed experiments. While your focus will remain heavily on mechanical projects and analytical planning, you may occasionally assist with data acquisition tasks to support broader lab operations. This position requires a hands-on mindset and strong analytical skills, ensuring that our physical infrastructure operates at peak performance to capture complex mechanical behavior throughout our testing cycles.   Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute mechanical projects for custom test benches and laboratory equipment, including the appropriate sizing and specification of industrial machines and components (e.g., motors, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, and bearings), overseeing their installation and physical setup.
  • Structure experiments and detailed test plans, defining innovative methodologies to research mechanical failures and capture reliable physical data.
  • Actively execute and operate daily physical tests for mechanical failure simulations, building a hands-on understanding of the systems and phenomena being analyzed.
  • Analyze mechanical systems and components, drawing technical conclusions from test results to directly support our data science team in AI model development.
  • Perform inspection, maintenance, and diagnostics on industrial components, utilizing our internal CMMS platform to manage maintenance routines.
  • Provide occasional support for data acquisition tasks, which may involve running basic scripts or assisting with broader lab instrumentation workflows.
  • Maintain clear documentation of test protocols and ensure all laboratory activities strictly comply with safety standards and Brazilian regulations.
  • Advanced English and Portuguese.
  • Availability to work on-site in São Paulo (Chácara Santo Antonio - Zona Sul).
  • Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience or a strong academic background in mechanical design and 3D CAD modeling software (such as SolidWorks or Inventor), including the creation of manufacturing drawings with defined geometric tolerances.
  • Fundamental understanding of rotating equipment assemblies, including mounting bases, couplings, gearboxes, belt/pulley transmissions, and bearing application (selection and defining interference fits).
  • Strong analytical skills necessary to structure logical test plans and interpret complex mechanical behavior.
  • A hands-on and collaborative mindset, with a willingness to execute daily physical tests, operate machinery, and design with ease of assembly in mind by actively listening to feedback and implementing it into the designs.
  • High level of proactivity and a fast learning pace, essential to absorb knowledge rapidly and support the continuous improvement of our testing facilities.
  • Bonus Points
  • Experience with FEA software for structural simulation.
  • Experience or academic background in dynamic modeling of mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance techniques and diagnostic tools (such as vibration analyzers, thermal cameras, and laser shaft aligners).
  • Basic knowledge of Python or general familiarity with data acquisition workflows and automation scripts.
  • Previous exposure to developing, structuring, or managing an experimental laboratory environment.
  • TRACTIAN is committed to reimagining manufacturing through an integrated ecosystem of products, services, and experiences. We build all-in-one software solutions that combine predictive maintenance and process management with innovative IoT devices, empowering enterprises to optimize operations and enhance machine reliability. Our focus on precision, efficiency, and emerging technologies sets us apart in the industrial tech landscape.
