The role of the Manager Security Operations is to support security leadership with day-to-day operations management of the Safety & Security Department on and off-campus. The Manager Security Operations reports directly to the Director of Safety & Security.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage security operations on and off-campus and assist with scheduling shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage.
- Coordinate investigations and support the Security Operations specialist.
- Analyze crime trends, make recommendations and oversee implementation of efficient and effective strategies.
- Oversee campus entry/exit procedures and ensure correct protocols are consistently followed.
- Optimize use of security resources utilized on and off campus.
- Coordinate security operations at student functions and events and at RUSVM events on and off campus.
- Coordinate security officers’ participation in joint operations with police.
- Respond to emergencies on and off campus in support of the on-duty Security team if needed. Emergencies may include, but are not limited to natural disasters like a hurricane, fire, flooding, or any criminal acts.
- Coordinate Campus safety and security during lockdown or campus closure for emergencies.
- Oversee vehicle fleet management.
- Participate in inspections of facilities and campus premises. This includes regular inspection of the duties and posts of security team members.
- Review daily registers and logs.
- Oversee inspections of safety equipment (PPE), inventory and security storage facilities.
- Take part in the interview process for new staff members.
- Develop training plans and ensure all security colleagues stay informed of policies, protocols, procedures, standard operating procedures and other areas of development.
- Coach, support and monitor the Supervisors to ensure high levels of motivation, performance, accountability and achievement of objectives and career goals.
- Monitor discipline and support the supervisors on disciplinary procedures.
- Develop and implement procedures and protocols for the daily operations. This will include regular, daily inspection of procedures to ensure that proper implementation is occurring.
- Oversee Individual Performance Plans, goal setting and performance assessments and ratings.
- Ensure that the supervisors assign officers and use resources optimally.
- Assess supervisors and their staff to ensure they are informed of protocols, rules and guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Review each shift summary report and oversee action steps necessary to address and follow-through.
- Review all incident reports and ensure they meet a high standard and approved by the supervisors.
- Ensure supervisors conduct informative shift briefings and oversee information exchange during shift changes.
- Support and assist the management of the K9 unit.
- Ensure that campus parking policy is enforced and campus parking violations are being addressed.
- Ensure that contractors and their workers are in compliance with the contractor vendors protocol including wearing of safety vests and having their ID badges.
- Regularly conduct on and off campus patrols with campus rover and mobile patrol officers.
- Ensure good customer service is being exhibited to RUSVM external and internal customers.
- Liaise with partners in and outside of the Security department for security operations related matters.
- Ensure documented monthly inspection of fire and security equipment are being carried out and that equipment is in good working conditions.
- Oversee AED inspections to ensure that equipment is in good working order and not expired.
- This position requires the completion of duties during off-hours and weekends. Prompt response to incidents and/or campus security concerns may be regularly required.
- This position is a designated Campus Security Authority.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all policies and standards
- Bachelor's Degree Required or
- equivalent qualification relevant to the role e.g. Security Administration/Management, Criminal Justice or Criminal Administration, or Industrial Safety, Required or
- any combination thereof would be an asset. Preferred
- 5+ years of experience as a manager leading teams. Required and
- Extensive working experience in the services industry, with a focus on customer service. Required and
- Preference would be given to candidates with safety and security experience. Preferred
- Must be driven, enthusiastic and self-motivated.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends, public holidays and attending to serious incidents and emergencies after-hours.
- Must be able to work under high stress situations and managing emergencies.
- Must be able to deliver through others.
- Highly effective communication skills both verbal and written.
- Skilled in compiling detailed reports.
- Computer literate.
