Boone Power is looking for a Meter Technician

To provide maximum service to the member/consumer by maintaining revenue metering installations and records at a high level of accuracy as specified by company policy, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. This includes the installation, maintenance, and testing of meters and metering communications equipment, instrument transformers, and other associated equipment as well as data collection, record keeping, and verification of the acceptability of completed metering installations.

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

Meter Installation, Testing & Maintenance

• Install, maintain, test, and inspect three-phase and single-phase meters and services
• Install and wire current transformers and assist with wiring various meter bases
• Assist with installation, maintenance, testing, and calibration of AMR/AMI equipment
• Perform connects and disconnects on three-phase and single-phase services
• Maintain accurate records and files related to meter testing and equipment

Meter Reading & Data Management

• Collect readings from all classifications of metering devices
• Assist with downloading and interpreting recorded meter data
• Identify irregularities and take appropriate action based on data analysis

Customer Service & Field Support

• Investigate consumer complaints and communicate meter test results for corrective action
• Detect, document, and report unsafe conditions, service issues, and suspected meter tampering
• Collect delinquent accounts as required

Compliance, Safety & Operations

• Maintain working knowledge of company policies and Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission regulations
• Apply company safety rules and work procedures daily
• Operate company vehicles and promptly report maintenance or repair needs

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required
  • Current Meterman designation or 4+ years commercial/industrial electrical experience preferred; OR
  • AA Degree / Technical Degree desired
  • Ability to learn and use metering hardware and software technologies
  • Ability to develop, a general understanding of the work of installing, testing, calibrating, and repairing single-phase and three-phase meters
  • Ability to develop, the capability of installing and wiring all types of meter bases
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of, or could develop, knowledge of NISC programs, and metering programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft office suite products
  • Must be able to use office equipment such as computer, keyboard, copier, printer, fax machine, etc.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office
