Role purpose and overview

A key role as part of the award-winning Telegraph Sport team.

You will lead our coverage of football on Merseyside, producing content that serves our digital audience. That will involve traditional disciplines such as live coverage, news gathering, feature and interview writing, opinion/analysis pieces and investigations. We will also work with you to find new ways of telling stories, be it through video, social media or off-platform. 

This role is for a self-starter who comes up with strong ideas but is also a team player, working with the desk and the other reporters in our team to generate a strong digital offering for our subscribers.

Key responsibilities

  • Working with the sports desk to set the agenda on Merseyside across a seven-day rota
  • Break exclusive news stories and ensure you are across all major developments on your patch 
  • Provide insightful match coverage, be it blog contributions, filing reports, comment or analysis on games in a timely fashion as guided by the desk 
  • Generate unique and interesting feature, analysis and interview ideas that will serve our digital audience 
  • Produce content across all Telegraph platforms, including video and on social media

Key skills

  • Previous journalistic experience with a strong track record of breaking exclusive news stories - preferably on the Merseyside football beat 
  • A strong news sense with proven expertise in developing stories and ideas for a digital audience
  • Confidence in prosecuting ideas across a variety of formats 
  • An understanding of digital storytelling and optimisation of content through social media 
  • A history of being able to deliver video would be desirable
