POSITION OVERVIEW

  • The Medium Voltage Engineer is responsible for performing warranty repairs, technical support, and testing of internal SMA Medium Voltage products.
  • This role supports customers through field work, remote troubleshooting, and collaboration with internal service, quality, and supplier teams while ensuring safe and compliant operation of medium and high voltage equipment.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely commission, troubleshoot, repair, and analyze medium voltage transformers and components in the field, via email, telephone, and on site visits
  • Develop detailed knowledge of SMA medium voltage transformer products and associated SMA or third party accessories sold by SMA
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts of spare parts provided by SMA
  • Regularly work with high voltage DC, three phase power, high AC voltage, and related SMA product software and firmware
  • Collaborate cross functionally with the Global Service Organization, Quality, and Suppliers to provide customers with Root Cause Analysis of failures
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with customers regarding RCA status and resolution progress
  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction while striving to reduce field service costs
  • Perform maintenance activities in accordance with SMA product maintenance manuals on assigned customer sites
  • Support customer contractual obligations related to service and maintenance
  • Work weekends and or nights as required based on customer site requirements
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned

REQUIRED TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Basic Medium Voltage Diagnosis Testing Certification from an accredited facility preferred

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of five years of field experience working on medium voltage systems or components as an electrician, journeyman, or engineer
  • Minimum of three years of experience in electrical, electronic, or network communications
  • Minimum of three years of experience working directly with medium voltage equipment
  • Prior experience performing cold weld patch repairs and field transformer repairs
  • Experience with pad mounted transformers, medium voltage terminations, and switchgear operation preferred
  • Prior experience in the solar energy industry strongly preferred

OTHER SPECIALIZED SKILLS

  • Knowledge of solar and or alternative energy markets preferred
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels including customers, integrators, and suppliers
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, required
  • German and or Spanish language skills a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to safely work with medium and high voltage electricity
  • Ability to work nonstandard business hours occasionally to support customer service contracts
  • Ability to train others effectively in both field and classroom environments
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively within the United States and occasionally internationally
