Contractor position

Temp: 6 months. Possibility to extend

As a Medior/Senior Front-End Engineer at ONTOFORCE, you’ll play a key role in shaping the usability, performance, and interactivity of DISQOVER. You’ll work closely with the Product team and back-end engineers to turn complex data interactions into intuitive, performant, and visually compelling user experiences. Your expertise in modern front-end development will help transform how researchers at leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies explore and visualize knowledge.

You won’t just execute tasks, you’ll help shape solutions, challenge assumptions, and improve how we work together.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build intuitive and high-performance interfaces: design and develop sophisticated, yet user-friendly, interfaces that make complex data exploration simple and engaging. You’ll translate scientific and technical complexity into clean, accessible visual experiences using technologies like React and TypeScript.

  • Optimize for scale and performance: work on large-scale data visualizations and search experiences, ensuring smooth interactivity and fast response times across millions of records. You’ll continuously optimize rendering performance, responsiveness, and memory efficiency.

  • End-to-End Front-End development: collaborate in an agile team across the full development lifecycle: from requirements and concept to implementation, testing, and deployment. You take pride in delivering high-quality, maintainable, and well-documented code.

  • Collaboration and knowledge sharing: partner closely with our product manager, front-end and back-end engineers to align design and functionality. Contribute to architectural discussions and champion front-end excellence and best practices.

  • Innovation and continuous improvement: explore and integrate emerging front-end technologies and frameworks to continuously elevate the user experience. Help shape how cutting-edge visualization and interaction techniques are used within our product.

WAYS OF WORKING

  • Hybrid setup with a preference for being in the office 2–3 days per week

  • Availability to be physically present during refinement and planning sessions

  • Value real-time collaboration while still being comfortable with focused individual work

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong professional experience in front-end development using React, TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), and modern CSS frameworks.

  • Demonstrated ability to build performant, scalable, and accessible single-page applications.

  • Deep familiarity with front-end architecture, component design patterns, and testing frameworks.

  • Experience collaborating with REST APIs and integrating complex back-end data sources.

  • A sharp eye for detail and usability, with experience in data-intensive or visualization-rich products a strong plus.

  • Understanding of agile development methodologies and CI/CD workflows.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

BONUS POINTS

  • Experience with UI/UX design and Figma

  • Familiarity with testing frameworks

  • Experience in product-driven or scale-up environments

  • Interest in frontend performance, accessibility, or DX improvements

Seniority Expectations

Depending on your level, you should:

  • Be able to work independently on larger features

  • Contribute to technical decisions and frontend architecture

  • Identify risks, edge cases, and improvements early

  • Help raise the overall frontend quality through reviews, discussions, and shared standards

Product & Mindset

We value engineers who:

  • Don’t just “do the ticket”, but think beyond it

  • Ask why something is built, not just how

  • Challenge requirements respectfully and constructively

  • Proactively suggest better UX, technical improvements, or alternative approaches

  • Are comfortable working in an environment where feedback goes both ways

Collaboration & Cultural Fit

This role is a good fit if you:

  • Enjoy working in an open, feedback-driven culture

  • Like being challenged and challenging others — always with respect

  • Communicate clearly and openly with product, design, and engineering

  • See refinement and planning as collaborative sessions, not formalities

  • Are open to learning and changing your mind when presented with better ideas
