Under the general direction of the Director of Revenue Cycle Management, the Medical Billing Associate helps keep Planned Parenthood Association of Utah (PPAU) running smoothly by ensuring that the billing department operates efficiently and effectively. In this role, you’ll process third-party insurance claims, support accounts receivable management, and help strengthen the financial foundation that allows us to provide high-quality, compassionate care to our patients.

Essential Job Functions
Responsible for the preparation of PPAU’s third-party billings, including Medicaid, private insurance, and other payers.
Ensure accurate and timely preparation and submission of billing information and posting of payments received.
Monitor unpaid claims and follow up or re-bill as needed to ensure timely payment.
Possess a strong working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding.
Records EOB payment balances to deposits daily and balances payments with account balances.
Works and sends out Responsible Collections statements bi-weekly. As accounts age, take appropriate action, such as sending statements, adjusting balances from the system, changing balance owed to bad debt, processing patient refunds as needed, etc.
Promptly responds to clients' billing inquiries and resolves client questions and concerns.
Negotiates payment schedules and other options with clients to reduce overdue accounts.
Asks questions and works with clinical staff to be part of a more effective team.
Incorporates client satisfaction into all aspects of billing activities.
Participates with the Director of Revenue Cycle Management and the finance team on analyzing Revenue Cycle data and recommends changes to improve workflow efficiencies.
Maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA and to PPAU policy.
What We're Looking For
High School diploma or equivalent.
1+ years of accounting experience and/or education.
Spanish-speaking ability strongly desired but not required.
Experience with Electronic Health Record systems and Clearinghouse billing preferred.
Experience with NextGen or Epic preferred but not required.
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred but not required. Additional compensation will be given for certification
