TLDR

Lead component development projects in a fast-paced, innovative environment, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality industrial products through collaboration and advanced engineering techniques.

As a Mechanical Engineer in the Research and Development Team, you'll take responsibility for leading component/product development from concept through to mass production. Your goal is to ensure that components are built according to specifications and shipped to the given timeline. You’ll bring engineering expertise and a knowledge of product development for industrial products.

You’ll need to have a strong understanding of the product development process and hands-on experience in bringing products to life. You'll also need the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving, and highly innovative environment.

You’ll be constantly thinking and questioning out of the box, creating innovative solutions with your skills and expertise. You’ll turn conceptual product designs into detailed 3D models and 2D drawings, performing all necessary validation. Then, you’ll collaborate closely with suppliers and cross-functional teams.

What you’ll do

  • Mechanical design and development:
    • Collaborate with project team engineers to design and develop mechanical solutions for VanMoof’s products that meet certifications and engineering specifications. From design concept to mass production.
    • Create CAD models, drawings, and BOM management, use best practices for ensuring CAD completeness and compatibility, and support the release process in the PLM (product life management) system.
  • Specifications research, Validation & Root Cause Analysis: Assist in testing, debugging, and troubleshooting mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Documentation and Communication: Contribute to clear and comprehensive documentation of mechanical designs, implementation details, and test procedures. Communicate effectively with team members to share knowledge and findings.
  • Collaboration with External Partners: Work closely with JDMs (Joint Development Manufacturers), OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), key suppliers, and CMs (Contract Manufacturers) to ensure part compliance. Ensure that system assembly and test fixtures are reliable and efficient.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with sourcing, quality engineers, and the product improvement team in later development stages to bring products to mass production.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering. Actively participate in learning opportunities and apply new knowledge to improve our products and processes.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in mechanical engineering or product design engineering; experience in mechatronics component development is an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfM/DfA), including processes such as plastic injection molding, metal stamping, die casting, forging, and rubber heat pressing.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling and 2D drafting; experience with SOLIDWORKS is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability with effective communication skills.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments is a plus.
