It's big, it's loud, it's cold, and it's one of the most challenging and exciting environments you can work in! Join the mechanical engineeering team of the Cryogenic Group for a unique opportunity to work on machines that constitute nearly half of the world's large helium liquefiers. CERN, Take Part!
At CERN, helium needs to flow like water from a tap. CERN is the world's largest particle physics laboratory and its flagship accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, depends on having an unrivalled set of cryogenic systems on hand to guarantee reliable operation. To sustain and extend its discovery potential, the LHC in undertaking a major upgrade, known as High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). New large-scale cryogenic infrastructure interfacing with existing machines and cryogenic distribution lines will be required.
The Cryogenics Group (CRG) in the Technology Department (TE) is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of cryogenic systems for accelerators and detectors, as well as for cryogenic test facilities. The group also supports low-temperature developments and tests at the Central Cryogenic Laboratory, which provides expertise in cryogenic design and instrumentation.

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
