Contribute to electric aviation by designing and certifying hardware that operates critical functions in demanding environments, while collaborating closely with manufacturing teams.
At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture. The Controls Electronics Team is responsible for converting high voltage to low voltage, distributing that power throughout the aircraft, providing instrumentation and monitoring, and designing all electrical wiring and interconnect systems. The team also develops custom sensor systems and research and development hardware.   As a mechanical engineer on this team, you will help design, produce, and certify the hardware that powers and monitors critical functions across the aircraft. These designs must perform reliably in demanding environments including high vibration, wide temperature ranges, and electrically noisy conditions. You will also create equipment used for production testing, engineering validation, and formal certification testing. How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
  • Design flightworthy mechanical components and assemblies using Catia.
  • Perform structural and thermal calculations to ensure product integrity at minimum weight.
  • Build prototypes, run experiments, and use test results to guide design improvements.
  • Work with internal manufacturing teams and external suppliers to bring designs into production.
  • Develop fixtures and equipment used in both production testing and certification testing.
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, customer, and internal requirements.
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical design. Internships, previous jobs, or personal experience are valued.
  • Mastery of 3D CAD. Catia strongly preferred.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings and applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Above and Beyond Qualifications:
  • Experience with aircraft certification programs
  • Advanced degree in mechanical engineering
  • Ability to perform FEA, heat transfer calculations and thermal models, and other in-depth analysis and simulation.
  • Large-scale manufacturing experience
  • Production or product qualification test equipment design experience
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • This position is preferred as on-site in South Burlington, Vermont, but a hybrid schedule may be possible for the right person.
