Mechanical Design Engineer

  • Develop technical product design and solution that meets identified product requirements, business ambitions and customer needs.
  • Create technical product design using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and 3D modelling programs.
  • Implement and apply IKEA standard materials, solutions, and platforms to drive cost savings and meet sustainability and circularity ambitions.
  • Collaborating with development partners, designers, and manufacturers to ensure design specifications are met.
  • Initiate development tests and computer simulations to optimize and verify product design and technical solutions.
  • Mitigate product risks to secure safe products.
  • Create technical documentation like 3D models, technical drawings, assembly instructions, assembly time, bill of components and other specifying product documentation.
  • Identify and give recommendations for After Sales Parts from a quality and circular perspective.
  • Break down product construction to relevant part structure level with all ingoing components and fittings.
  • Engineering education background.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Relevant product development, production, and material. Understanding cost drivers, sustainable and circular solutions.
  • Experience in home furniture industry would be a plus.
  • Mechanical design, geometric dimensioning, tolerancing, simulation, drawing techniques and 3D modeling.
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs (mandatory-SolidWorks; preferable-Blender (3D max), CLO) and product lifecycle management systems (preferable Windchill).
  • Product documentation and verification methods.
  • IKEA specific: IKEA vision, Democratic Design, RPD Processes, IKEA Business model, IKEA value chain, PLUS and PIA.
  • An ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality and reliability.
  • Translate project concept, ideas, ambitions and requirements into technical product designs and solutions.
  • Ability to work in multiple projects and development teams in parallel.
  • Work in teams and make things happen by involving and engaging others.

  • Passionate about solving problems to create better solutions and products for our customers.
