Advance target injection and tracking capabilities for Inertia’s fusion program by designing and running high-repetition rate target injection systems.
Overview:
We are seeking Mechanical / Ballistics Researchers to advance target injection, tracking, engagement capabilities for Inertia’s fusion program. This position involves designing, developing and running a high-repetition rate target injection system.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and run highly accurate, modest acceleration, high repetition rate inertial fusion target injector system (gas gun or similar technology) for Inertia’s target injection/tracking/engagement system.
Design methods to control projectile stability and trajectory, and interface with target tracking systems.
Collaborate with scientists, laser and system engineers to meet specifications.
Interface with vendors and external suppliers.
Qualifications:
Required:
BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
Strong design-for-manufacturing skills.
Hands-on experimental and prototyping experience.
Preferred:
Background in fusion target manufacturing or aerospace hardware assembly.
Experience with high repetition rate target injector systems such as gas guns, electromagnetic launchers, or similar technologies.
Knowledge of automation, robotics, or metrology systems.
Salary & Benefits:
The base salary range for this role is $125,000 - $225,000; The pay range provided is an estimated base range for this role. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and education.
