Smardt is hiring a Materials Supervisor in Plattsburgh, NY!
A Materials Supervisor oversees the procurement, storage, and distribution of materials within an organization. They are responsible for ensuring the availability of necessary materials to support production processes while maintaining cost efficiency and inventory control. Please note this is an on-site role.
Here's a preview of what you'll be doing:
- Supervise and coordinate the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials to ensure adequate inventory levels for production / Sales and Service needs.
- Monitor material usage and maintain accurate records of materials inventory, including raw materials, components, and finished goods.
- Work closely with purchasing teams to ensure timely procurement of materials based on demand forecasts.
- Oversee inventory control systems to track materials and prevent shortages or overstock situations.
- Conduct inventory counts and reconciliation to ensure accurate stock levels.
- Implement procedures to optimize inventory turnover and minimize waste or obsolescence.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within material handling and inventory management.
- Implement best practices and strategies for material flow, storage, and distribution.
- Coordinate with production, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure material requirements are met according to production schedules.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding material orders, deliveries, and potential delays.
- Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure materials meet company and regulatory standards.
- Prepare regular reports on inventory levels, material costs, and supplier performance for management review.
- Maintain accurate documentation for all materials, including receipts, shipments, and order tracking.
- Communicate effectively with other departments, suppliers, and transportation providers to coordinate logistics and resolve any issues.
We're looking for someone who has:
- 3-5 years of experience in materials management, warehouse operations, or supply chain management.
- Strong knowledge of inventory management software and systems.
- Ability to lead a team and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Knowledge of inventory management systems and procedures.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable discipline
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience, preferred.
- Ability to travel to Canada for training (preferred)
- Must be able to push, pull, lift, and maneuver material and products up to 50 pounds
