Master Mechanic - Fixed Equipment

TLDR

The role includes responsibility for supporting, guiding, and training other employees to develop required skills to reach the Master Mechanic level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures. Dismantle machinery or equipment, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
  • Assembles and install equipment, such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, lasers, and plumb bobs.
  • Assembles machinery and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
  • May operate lathe or milling machine to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
  • Required repair and lubricate machinery and equipment.
  • Select cables, ropes, chains, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
  • Attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, to crane hooks.
  • Direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment.
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Follow instructions, read blueprints, use logical step-by-step procedures in work.
  • Look at flat drawings or pictures and visualize how they would look as a solid object.
  • Work at heights without fear.
  • Plan work and solve problems.andnbsp; Make decisions based on measurable information.
  • Perform a variety of duties which may change often.
  • Work safely and complete all applicable safety cards and work permits and follow company policies.
  • Use hands and fingers fully; reach for, manipulate, and feel objects; stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl, lay, bend or squat for long periods of time.
  • Climb and maintain body balance on ladders, scaffold, or high structures; and see and hear well (either naturally or with correction)
  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • The role includes responsibility for supporting, guiding, and training other employees to develop the skills and qualifications required to reach the Master Mechanic level.
  • Maintain daily housekeeping of work area and vehicles.
  • Duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
 
  • Five (5) years of relevant service in industrial plant maintenance or three (3) years’ experience as a Mechanic A for Premier Magnesia.
  • Successfully pass the Master Mechanic test as designated by the Company.
  • 3-5 years of experience in oxygen/acetylene cutting and plasma cutting, MIG/TIG welding and electrode welding, pipe welding, fabrication
  • Completed a rigging and hoisting course/certification program preferred
  • Certified or Crane Operator course completion certificate preferred
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to motivate and safely lead other mechanics in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands-on knowledge test of abilities as determined by the Company.
  • Flexible work schedule required.
  • Time management and organizational skills necessary.
    • Present quantifiable results and proven ability to lead team programs and initiatives 
    • Willing to relocate to a remote rural community
    • Must be willing to train employees coming up in the Maintenance Department.
