SlashData

Market Research Analyst (Remote - within Europe)

€35.000 – €45.000 per year

TLDR

Develop and deliver research on AI's impact on software development, working with major tech companies to influence product and go-to-market strategies.

About SlashData

SlashData helps product, platform, and engineering leaders understand how software development is changing in the AI era. For over 20 years, we have helped many of the world’s leading technology companies understand developers, developer ecosystems, and the tools and workflows shaping the future of software.

Our work helps clients:

  • understand how the developer ecosystem and software engineering teams are evolving,
  • build better products, platforms, and go-to-market strategies for the AI era,
  • make smarter decisions about the tools, practices, and investments shaping the future of software.

Our ambition is to become the industry-standard measurement system for the software development economy - the reference point that product, platform, and engineering leaders rely on to make decisions about developers, AI, and the future of software.

The Role

We are looking for a Market Research Analyst based within Europe with 2 to 5 years of experience in market research, data analysis, or technology advisory work.

In this role, you will develop and deliver research on how AI is reshaping software development - from developer tool adoption to engineering team workflows. You will work directly with product and platform leaders at major technology companies, translating our survey data into insights and foresight that shape their product, platform, and go-to-market decisions.

Prior experience in the software or technology industry and early experience in AI tools are major pluses, but deep curiosity about the space and a drive to develop genuine domain expertise are essential.

In this role, you will help turn business questions into research projects and research findings into clear, actionable insights. You will work closely with clients and internal stakeholders across survey design, analysis, reporting, and presentations.

You do not need prior experience in the software industry, but you should have a genuine interest in technology and a basic understanding of the software industry and developer ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Working with clients and internal stakeholders to translate business problems into research objectives and projects.
  • Designing surveys that address the research needs of our clients and driving their desired outcomes (whether validating a thesis with data, or writing a thought leadership paper on the future of software).
  • Analysing data (using Python) to extract actionable insights on developer behaviours, preferences, and market trends.
  • Producing clear, well-structured reports that explain both the findings and their relevance (answering the “so what?” behind the results).
  • Presenting findings in client briefings, webinars, and other external-facing formats.
  • Contributing to the design of our global developer surveys, asking the right questions given our research objectives.
  • Actively building expertise in software development, AI, and the developer ecosystem - developing an informed point of view that shapes our research agenda and client conversations.
  • Developing deep domain expertise in AI technology trends, developer tools, and software engineering practices - building a credible point of view, not just reporting data.
  • Contributing to SlashData's published indices and trackers.
  • Building and maintaining direct advisory relationships with client stakeholders, being a core part of the client relationship.
  • Developing foresight on where AI technology trends are heading - helping clients see around the corner, not just understand what happened.

Requirements

What we are looking for

Essential

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in market research, data analysis, and client project delivery.
  • Experience in working with stakeholders to understand business objectives and define research projects that address their needs.
  • Excellent business writing skills (English), with the ability to effectively communicate complex findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing clear, evidence-based research reports that turn data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to identify the implications behind the data and answer the “so what?” clearly.
  • Strong presentation skills, preferably with experience in delivering client briefings.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including hands-on experience with Python, R, or similar scripting tools, and familiarity with SQL.
  • At least a basic understanding of statistics and applied quantitative methods, such as segmentation, clustering and classification.
  • Ability to visualise data clearly and effectively through easy-to-understand charts and graphics.
  • Comfortable working as part of a distributed team, with mutual flexibility around working hours and occasional client meetings held after 17:00 UK time.
  • Genuine curiosity about technology trends - you follow AI, developer tools, or software engineering developments because you find them interesting, not just because a job requires it.
  • Confidence in client-facing settings - you can hold your own in a conversation with a Head of Product or VP of Engineering, not just present slides to them.

Bonus points for

  • Experience in working with complex survey data.
  • Advanced Python skills, including data manipulation and analysis in Pandas.
  • Following trends in the tech industry, either through past experience or as a hobby.
  • Having software development experience as a hobby or past work.
  • Experience at an analyst firm, technology advisory firm, or in a developer relations/developer marketing role.

You will be successful in the first 6 months if:

  • Developed a credible point of view on at least one AI technology trend, informed by our survey data and your own research.
  • Authored at least three research reports, carrying out all data analysis and background research as needed.
  • Actively participated in at least two client research projects.
  • Delivered at least two client briefings or webinars to our high standards.
  • Actively contributed to shaping the research agenda and designing parts of the questionnaire of our upcoming global developer survey.
  • Supported our developer outreach and sales teams, promptly responding to any requests relevant to your work.
  • Built working relationships with at least 2 client accounts, actively participating in advisory conversations alongside senior analysts.
