The opportunity

Altruist is expanding its trading and credit capabilities with the launch of Margin and Options, two of the most operationally and risk-intensive offerings at a modern custodian. We’re hiring a Margin Operations Analyst to support the daily execution, monitoring, and control of margin lending activity across client accounts. This role sits within the Margin & Options Operations team and reports to the Manager, Margin & Options Operations. It is a hands-on operational role responsible for ensuring margin accounts remain compliant with regulatory requirements while delivering a clear, consistent experience for advisors. If you enjoy detailed operational work, risk monitoring, and problem-solving in fast-moving markets—and want to be close to both Trading and Risk decisions—this role offers meaningful responsibility and growth.

Your impact

As a Margin Operations Analyst, you will play a critical role in protecting both clients and the firm by ensuring margin activity is monitored, reviewed, and resolved accurately and on time. You will be a first line of defense for margin risk, working daily in core risk systems and partnering closely with Trading, Compliance, and the Trade Desk.

What you’ll do

Daily Margin Operations & Call Management

  • Review and process all daily margin calls, including Reg T, Maintenance, House, and Day Trade calls
  • Monitor call aging and ensure adherence to firm and regulatory timelines (T+1 through T+5)
  • Issue margin call notifications to advisors and track resolution through funding or liquidation
  • Escalate aged, high-risk, or unusual margin calls to the Manager for review

Debit Balance & Restriction Monitoring

  • Monitor daily debit balances in margin and cash accounts using internal tooling and FIS reports
  • Enforce policies related to debit balances, including liquidation thresholds and exception handling
  • Track and apply Pattern Day Trader (PDT), Good Faith, and Freeride restrictions
  • Coordinate with the Trade Desk on liquidations required to satisfy margin or debit obligations

Risk Surveillance & Exception Review

  • Perform daily reviews in Stream Credit Monitor (SCM) to validate margin requirements and calls
  • Monitor concentration, liquidity, and volatility risk across margin accounts
  • Leverage Sterling Risk Monitor (SRM) to assess intraday exposure, stress scenarios, and downside risk
  • Review and resolve margin exception reports, escalating potential systemic issues

Regulatory & Control Responsibilities

  • Ensure margin activity complies with Regulation T, FINRA Rule 4210, and firm house policies
  • Support Reg T extension filings and documentation when approved
  • Maintain clear documentation and audit evidence for daily reviews, exceptions, and escalations
  • Participate in periodic control reviews, audits, and regulatory exams

 Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with the Trade Desk to support advisor questions related to buying power, margin calls, and liquidations
  • Work closely with Compliance and the Manager on escalations, exceptions, and policy interpretation
  • Support Product and Engineering during margin feature buildouts by providing operational feedback and testing support

What you bring

We’re looking for a detail-oriented operations professional with a strong understanding of margin lending and broker-dealer controls.

Experience & Expertise

  • 2–5 years of experience in brokerage, clearing, or margin operations
  • Hands-on experience with margin calls, debit balances, or credit monitoring strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Reg T, maintenance margin, and PDT rules
  • Experience working with exception reports and time-sensitive operational workflows

Technical & Systems Familiarity

  • Experience with platforms such as FIS Phase 3, Stream Credit Monitor (SCM), or similar credit systems
  • Exposure to OMS/risk tools such as Sterling or equivalent a plus
  • Strong Excel skills; comfort working with operational reports and internal tools

Licensing

  • FINRA Series 7 required or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe
  • Series 4 or 24 a plus, but not required

Skills & Attributes

  • High attention to detail and strong sense of accountability
  • Ability to prioritize work in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for advisor and internal interactions
  • Sound judgment and comfort escalating issues when risk thresholds are breached
