The Mission of the Manufacturing Technician

ICEYE is looking for an Manufacturing Technician (Assembly and Integration - MAIT / AIT) to join our High Altitude Pseudosatelite (HAPS) team tasked with the development of an unmanned, stratospheric electric aircraft. 

You will be responsible for activities ranging from fabrication and assembly of composite carbon fiber parts (CFRP), metallic structures, cabling harness and battery pack integration, as well as for the installation of avionic subsystems and end-to-end ground testing of individual subsystems of the aircraft. 

The work will involve collaborating with engineering in transitioning new systems from engineering to test-builds and mature assembly and testing techniques, looking for areas of optimization and improvement. Additionally, you’ll get to participate in manufacturing assembly and infrastructure improvements, building of test jigs, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Assembly of large, but very lightweight unmanned aircraft
  • Fabrication of lightweight aircraft  structures/components and building CFRP composite parts
  • Development of new assembly, integration and testing processes,  and tools for an ultra-light UAV
  • Manufacturing of electronics assemblies and sub-level components (such as cable harness manufacturing and battery manufacturing of state-of-the-art high power density batteries)
  • Design and assembly of electrical and mechanical test jigs to support R&D
  • Developing and executing test procedures
  • Transitioning new designs from engineering to manufacturing

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant experience as an electrical/electromechanical/electronic technician with a hands-on approach
  • Experience with mechanical prototyping (3D printing, using basic mechanical workshop equipment)
  • Basic knowledge of CAD tools
  • Good command of the English language, both oral and written

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in aircraft, robot, race car or similar system prototyping & manufacturing
  • Good systems and physics understanding
  • Experience with composites
  • Experience with welding (multi material)
  • Hands-on experience with unmanned aircraft operations/testing
  • Experience working with electronic equipment (prototype boards, harness, test setups)
  • Development of process improvements and setups to improve cycle times, repeatability, and maturity
  • Basic programming skills (C/Python/SQL/Excel)
  • Proactive, can-do attitude
  • Curiosity and passion about technology
