Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor (2nd Shift)

Lead and support comprehensive manufacturing engineering activities within assigned cell(s), including driving lean manufacturing initiatives, implementing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), optimizing inventory location assignments, conducting thorough contract reviews, developing clear shop floor instructions, analyzing and validating labor standards, and overseeing capital equipment and facility upgrade projects.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide manufacturing engineering supervision, ensuring that manufacturing cells are properly supported.
  • Work effectively as a team member to ensure operational metrics are achieved and any remedial action is actively pursued.
  • Maintain current updates on manufacturing engineering related tasks.
  • Represent manufacturing engineering at appropriate meetings and events.
  • Design or specify any equipment, tooling, or racking required to support manufacturing.
  • Ensure relevant Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) are properly reviewed within assigned cells or option groups and support all aspects of production implementation.
  • Ensure default locators are assigned to all parts within assigned manufacturing cells.
  • Create shop floor instructions and hot sheets, and train the necessary personnel on those standards.
  • Update and maintain layouts (plant & cell layouts, inventory, housekeeping, emergency, & security maps).
  • Specify and facilitate capital and equipment upgrades, installations, or modifications.
  • Implement and facilitate lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, value stream mapping, setup reduction, etc.).
  • Promote an environment of continuous improvement and teamwork.
  • Lead or participate in SWAT team meetings, ensuring necessary actions are taken by cross-functional groups to resolve issues.
  • Conduct process observations to ensure assigned time standards are fair and consistent.
  • Maintain resource plans to ensure production activities are properly resourced.
  • Validate routings, submit, and implement routing change requests to process planning as appropriate.
  • Conduct contract reviews prior to contract start to ensure production preparedness, as outlined in the Manufacturing Readiness Assessment work instruction.
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings to assist with the disposition of non-conforming materials.
  • Initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) where appropriate.
  • Support process planning and production engineering.
  • Participate in internal and supplier certifications and audits, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (required).
  • Experience in a manufacturing engineering or supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, plant layout design, and production process documentation.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing readiness assessments, ECNs, and ECRs.
