As the Manager, Tax, you will oversee all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and risk management for EBG’s multi-entity, multi-state operations. Serving as the primary liaison between EBG, its parent company CAA, and external tax professionals, you will ensure compliance with evolving tax laws, with a strong emphasis on sales tax for both digital and physical goods. The Manager, Tax will drive process improvements, collaborate cross-functionally, and proactively identify opportunities to optimize EBG’s tax position while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.
- Tax Compliance & Filings
- Oversee preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, with a focus on multi-jurisdictional sales tax compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of all tax obligations to avoid penalties and interest
- Maintain detailed records of all tax filings and payments
- State Sales Tax Reporting & Filing
- Manage preparation and filing of state sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions, including digital goods/services and marketplace facilitator laws
- Ensure compliance with all state sales tax regulations and maintain comprehensive documentation
- Federal Tax Return Support
- Collaborate with external tax professionals to support and review federal tax returns
- Coordinate collection and organization of necessary documentation for federal filings
- Review federal tax filings for accuracy and compliance
- K-1 Preparation, Review, and Distribution
- Manage the preparation, review, and distribution of K-1s for partners and stakeholders
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of K-1s in accordance with federal requirements
- Address inquiries related to K-1s and provide support during tax season
- Support and review tax-related distributions to employee shareholders
- Tax Research & Advisory
- Conduct research on tax issues related to new products, services, and market expansions
- Monitor changes in federal and state tax laws, regulations, and industry standards
- Advise internal stakeholders on the impact of tax law changes and recommend strategies for compliance and tax optimization
- Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Technology, and IT teams to consult on sales tax functionality, compliance, and risk mitigation
- Partner with IT to enhance tax-related tools and systems, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in tax reporting and calculation
- Advise on mergers and acquisitions, including structuring, due diligence, and contract negotiation related to taxes
- Train and mentor internal staff on tax compliance topics as needed
- Tax Planning & Risk Management
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with sales tax and other tax obligations
- Seek opportunities to reduce tax liability within legal frameworks, including scenario analysis for new business initiatives
- Relationship Management
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors, tax auditors, and regulatory agencies
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal tax personnel at CAA and other affiliated entities
- Audit & Reconciliation
- Support and coordinate tax audits, providing necessary documentation and resolving discrepancies
- Reconcile tax accounts and ensure proper internal controls are in place
- Process Improvement
- Continuously assess and implement process improvements to streamline tax compliance and reporting
- Evaluate and recommend tax software and automation tools to enhance operational effectiveness
- Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting or a related discipline
- Minimum of 7 years progressive combined public and private industry tax experience
- Experience with multi-state sales tax compliance and reporting, including digital goods/services
- Strong knowledge of sales tax laws and regulations
- Direct experience in researching and applying technical tax matters
- Advance Microsoft Office skills (specifically Excel)
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Microsoft Great Plains/Dynamics F&O preferred) and tax automation tools
- High attention to detail with a proven ability to analyze, interpret, and resolve a variety of discrepancies
- Experience working in a high-volume and fast-paced environment
- Strong project management, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure and consistently meet deadlines
- Well-organized and adept at managing peak workloads
