Manager/Staff Software Engineer, Embedded Platform

TLDR

Own and evolve the software foundation for a growing fleet of connected devices, ensuring reliability and scalability while leading a small engineering team.

About Inspiren

Inspiren offers the most complete and connected ecosystem in senior living. Founded by Michael Wang, a former Green Beret turned cardiothoracic nurse, Inspiren proves that compassionate care and technology can coexist - bringing peace of mind to residents, families, and staff.

Our integrated platform connects smart hardware, embedded software, and cloud infrastructure to deliver real-time insights that improve safety, operational efficiency, and care outcomes across senior living communities.

About the Role

Inspiren is seeking a Manager / Staff Software Engineer, Embedded Platform to own and evolve the software foundation that powers our growing fleet of connected devices in production. This role sits at the intersection of embedded systems, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale device operations, and is critical to ensuring reliability, scalability, and fast iteration as Inspiren expands its device footprint.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role reporting to our Director of Platform Engineering, with 1–2 direct reports to start. You’ll partner closely with hardware, firmware, data/AI, security, and infrastructure teams to build robust systems that operate reliably in real-world environments.

What You’ll Own

  • Own and evolve Inspiren’s embedded platform supporting a growing fleet of connected devices in production.
  • Build systems for provisioning, updating, and monitoring device software with minimal downtime.
  • Improve reliability, observability, and incident response across device, network, and system layers.
  • Lead a small team (1–2 engineers), setting technical direction while remaining highly hands-on.
  • Partner closely with hardware, firmware, cloud, data/AI, and security teams to align standards and tooling.
  • Enable faster iteration through automation, testing, and strong release processes across device platforms.

What You Bring

  • Experience shipping and operating production systems end-to-end (software, embedded, infrastructure, or platform).
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, even if part of your background is in hardware, firmware, or embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux-based systems and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation, or similar).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, TypeScript).
  • Experience supporting systems at meaningful scale (e.g., large device fleets or user bases).
  • AI Adoption: You actively use AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code) as a core part of how you work. Your AI usage goes well beyond basic prompting and into automating tasks, long-running processes, and complex integrations.
  • Ability to influence across teams and work effectively in a fast-moving, startup environment.
  • Startup experience preferred (Series C/D a plus), with a willingness to be scrappy and pragmatic.
  • Prior management experience is a plus but not required.

We care more about depth of impact and ownership than checking every box. If your experience spans software and embedded or hardware-adjacent systems, we encourage you to apply.
