Position Overview

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead teams building scalable, reliable web applications and microservices for our News and Competitive Data Analysis Platform. In this role, you will drive technical strategy, guide architecture, and enable smooth, high-quality engineering execution.

You will work closely with Product, Design, DevOps, and Infrastructure teams to deliver impactful, user-centric solutions. Your experience across Python, Django, React, Apache Solr, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, and cloud-native databases will help shape our next generation of platform capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across teams, delivering scalable, high-quality software solutions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to clarify requirements and ensure alignment between engineering and business outcomes.

  • Identify system challenges and lead initiatives that improve performance, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Promote an inclusive, learning-oriented engineering culture by modeling best practices and sound technical judgment.

  • Mentor and support engineers of different experience levels, helping them grow their skills and confidence.

  • Conduct constructive code reviews and advocate for quality, consistency, and continuous improvement.


What You Need to Succeed

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Experience guiding architecture for Django-based backends and React-based frontends, focusing on scalability and maintainability.

Engineering Execution

  • Ability to own and drive a technical roadmap, including task frameworks, messaging pipelines (RabbitMQ), and data storage systems.

Scalability & Performance

  • Hands-on experience optimizing backend worker nodes and distributed systems.

Search & Database Optimization

  • Understanding of indexing and retrieval systems, including PostgreSQL, CloudSQL, and Apache Solr.

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Experience planning or executing cloud migrations and modernizing data infrastructure.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with DevOps teams on deployment, CI/CD, monitoring, and reliability.

People & Culture

  • Commitment to building a supportive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and work with empathy across different teams and stakeholders.


Preferred Experience & Skills

These are preferred, not required. Candidates who meet most but not all are encouraged to apply.

  • 10+ years of experience in software development and 2+ years in engineering leadership.

  • Strong knowledge of Python (Django, Celery) and modern JavaScript/React.

  • Experience with RabbitMQ, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.

  • Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases and search technologies.

  • Experience with scalable architectures and performance optimization.

  • Exposure to NLP, semantic search, or text-processing systems (nice to have).

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS.

  • Strong understanding of code quality, security practices, and performance tuning.

  • Ability to guide teams through ambiguity and technical complexity.
