Manager SDET, IPSEC/GRE

AI overview

Lead quality engineering for IPSec and GRE datapath services, ensuring test strategy, quality outcomes, and release readiness at a massive scale within a collaborative environment.

About Netskope

Today, there's more data and users outside the enterprise than inside, causing the network perimeter as we know it to dissolve. We realized a new perimeter was needed, one that is built in the cloud and follows and protects data wherever it goes, so we started Netskope to redefine Cloud, Network and Data Security.

Since 2012, we have built the market-leading cloud security company and an award-winning culture powered by hundreds of employees spread across offices in Santa Clara, St. Louis, Bangalore, London, Paris, Melbourne, Taipei, and Tokyo. Our core values are openness, honesty, and transparency, and we purposely developed our open desk layouts and large meeting spaces to support and promote partnerships, collaboration, and teamwork. From catered lunches and office celebrations to employee recognition events and social professional groups such as the Awesome Women of Netskope (AWON), we strive to keep work fun, supportive and interactive.  Visit us at Netskope Careers. About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Manager SDET to lead quality engineering for our IPSec and GRE datapath services, which are core to our cloud networking and security platform. This role requires deep understanding of networking fundamentals, tunneling protocols, and large-scale distributed systems, combined with strong people leadership and execution rigor.

You will own test strategy, quality outcomes, and release readiness for IPSec and GRE services operating at massive scale across global POPs.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Quality Leadership

  • Own the end-to-end quality strategy for IPSec and GRE datapath services.
  • Define and drive functional, scale, performance, longevity, and resiliency testing for tunneling services.
  • Ensure coverage across:
  • IPSec (IKEv1/IKEv2, tunnel lifecycle, rekeying, DPD, NAT-T)
  • GRE tunnels and steering scenarios
  • Encryption algorithms, MTU handling, fragmentation, PMTU, MSS clamping
  • Failure scenarios (link flaps, tunnel churn, node failures, failover)
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Product, and PE/Ops teams to ensure production-grade readiness.

Release & Production Readiness

  • Lead release qualification for IPSec/GRE features and changes.
  • Drive risk assessment, go/no-go decisions, and rollout readiness.
  • Ensure test plans explicitly cover production learnings, regressions, and customer escalations.
  • Champion shift-left testing and prevention of production issues through better qualification.

Automation & Test Infrastructure

  • Drive automation strategy for datapath validation, including:
  • Tunnel bring-up and teardown
  • Traffic generation and validation
  • Failure injection and chaos testing
  • Ensure scalable and repeatable test frameworks for multi-POP environments.
  • Partner with automation engineers to balance automation vs exploratory testing.

People & Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of QA engineers working on IPSec/GRE.
  • Set clear expectations, career paths, and technical growth plans.
  • Raise the bar on ownership, accountability, and quality mindset.
  • Build a culture of deep debugging, root cause ownership, and learning.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the quality voice in cross-functional forums.
  • Work closely with:
  • Datapath and platform engineering
  • Platform engineering and SRE teams
  • Product Management
  • Drive alignment on quality standards, SLAs, and operational readiness.

Required Qualifications

Experience

12+ years in QA / Quality Engineering, with 3+ years in a leadership or manager role.

Hands-on experience testing networking or security products.

Proven experience owning release qualification for critical systems.

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of:

  • IPSec, GRE, VPN technologies
  • TCP/IP, UDP, MTU, fragmentation, routing
  • Linux networking and packet-level debugging
  • Experience with tools such as:
  • tcpdump, Wireshark
  • Traffic generators (TRex, iPerf, Spirent, IxNetwork, etc.)
  • Familiarity with cloud-native or distributed systems is a strong plus.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with VPP-based datapaths, DPDK, or high-performance networking.
  • Exposure to cloud firewall, SD-WAN, or SASE platforms.
  • Experience working with large-scale production environments and global POPs.
