Manager, Program Management Office

TLDR

Manage a program management and project coordinator team focused on developing products and processes for the da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery platform, ensuring timely and successful market delivery

Primary Function of Position:

This role will be in the Sustaining PMO Team and will be reporting to the Sustaining PMO Sr. Manager, you will be accountable for managing program management and project coordinator team for development of products and processes supporting the da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery platform. You will support a portfolio that includes New Product Development in R&D, product changes and compliance driven projects. You will ensure the right products are created and delivered at the time of market introduction to ensure Company success.  Your knowledge of the robotic platforms and their advanced imaging modalities is critical to ensure cross-functional communication and coordination, and you will play a key role in the prioritization and development of new technologies.

The position requires experience in hardware and software imaging systems. It requires familiarity both in Product Development and Compliance spaces, including shepherding teams through Design Control, Product Lifecyle Phases, and managing resource constraints and priorities. The role requires demonstrated cross-functional experience, aligning stakeholders to a common goal, and managing through influence. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Hire and develop a team of highly capable project managers and coordinators to meet the needs of the Company’s business units.

  • Organize and prioritize work to accomplish the company objectives.

  • Act as player-coach, developing their capabilities and providing professional development paths.

  • Assess staff performance and provide feedback, both formal and informal.

  • Coordinate effectively with multiple other stakeholders who drive similar development programs, understanding how goals, scope, and timelines impact each other.

  • Support functional resource managers negotiating resources and schedules.

  • Update weekly / monthly / quarterly program status reports and ensure cross-product dependencies are planned for.

  • Perform risk analysis and develop contingency plans to resolve prioritization and tradeoffs.

  • Develop new and improved work processes for the teams. Champion processes that enable effective and efficient cross-functional interaction.

  • Work directly as a Program Manager as well as people manager.

Skill/Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field is required. Advanced degree in an applicable field is a plus.

  • Minimum 8 years product development experience.

  • Previous people leader experience of 1-3 years

  • Previous experience within a Sustaining Team in the Medical Device (MD) industry.  Design Control and 510k is a plus

  • Exceptional leadership skills with business acumen; ability to inspire, motivate and provide professional development to direct reports.

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams: influencing, lobbying, and doing whatever it takes to move the project forward to meet deadlines, but in a manner that builds trust and is consistent with our culture.

  • Demonstrated success in navigating complex business environments and driving efficient and effective direction.

  • Proven success recognizing critical issues with the ability to react quickly under pressure, and drive issues to closure by providing coordinated direction.

  • Strong reporting, project management, analytical skills, and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated change management success along with experience hiring and managing a team of individual contributors.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target compensation ranges are listed.
