The Underground Mine Manager is responsible for all operational and technical aspects of the Martha underground mining operation. This encompasses development of mining schedules and budgets, achievement of budgeted physicals, maintaining manning levels, health and safety performance, legislative compliance and championing a constructive culture. The role is also responsible for related contractor and cost management and is accountable for delivering small to medium sized capital projects within the underground operations.
Key responsibilities:
- Demonstrating a combination of strong technical knowledge with strong leadership and people skills, to drive a positive culture throughout the Waihi underground operation.
- Ensuring personnel resources are maintained at the required levels, a succession planning framework is operational and performance management occurs in line company policy
- Management of underground contractors to ensure delivery on contractual commitments.
- Act as operational and legislative reference point, building functional and constructive relationships with all stakeholders
- Be accountable for bringing to life the Group and Operation strategy, including the OceanaGold vision, values and purpose and specific behavioural safety programmes.
- Ownership of workplace incidents and investigation, addressing workplace hazards, and feeding back to the crews at the Safety Meetings/prestart positive performance and focus areas for improvement
- Production of achievable mine plans/forecasts/budgets and allocating the resources to deliver on it.
- Drive the continuous improvement process, including implementation of identified initiatives.
- Management of costs in line with budget (OPEX and CAPEX), including monthly accruals, monthly cost reviews, overall performance, and action planning for areas of variance.
- Interpret legislation, government standards and agreements. Provide input/informed commentary, improvement opportunities and areas of risk to management.
- Be accountable for the quality of work output from the department through an ongoing monitoring and audit process.
- Primary contact with WorkSafe, ensuring Martha operation is fulfilling key regulatory requirements (Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, Mining Operations and Quarrying Operations Regulations 2016)
- 1st Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency
- Site Senior Executive Certificate of Competency (or wiliness & ability to obtain once in NZ)
- Full and current driver licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
- At least 7 years Underground mining experience
- At least 2 years mine management experience or leadership with a mining contractor.
- Contract management experience
- Track record of delivering on high speed development
